Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says that Epic Games will not limit the distribution or sale of games with NFTs. Sweeney's statement follows a statement from Minecraft developer Mojang that outlined the company's stance to not allow blockchain technology or NFTs in Minecraft.

Following Mojang's announcement, one fan contacted Sweeney on Twitter to inquire if Epic Games would take a similar stance, but Sweeney responded in the negative.
He states that developers should be able choose what games they want to create and you should be able to choose whether or not you want to play them. "I believe that stores and operating system makers should not impose their views onto others. We certainly won't."
Another user responded to Sweeney's comments asking how this differs from the Epic Games policy against the use of hateful and discriminatory content. Sweeney said that this is due to "editorial and branding judgements" and that Epic has chosen to "draw the line at the mainstream acceptable norms."
Some users of the PC gaming subreddit have criticized Sweeney's position. This is despite the fact that Epic CEO John McDonnell has been vocal about NFTs in the past. Sweeney published publicly a copy of a September 2021 email reply in a tweet reply. The message stated that "We aren’t touching NFTs because the whole field is currently caught in a complex mix of scams and interesting decentralised tech foundations as well as scams."
Now Sweeney is certain that developers who use the Epic Game store should have the choice to pursue these integrations if they want, however. He said in an update tweet that "Crypto is a complex.
