How to use Split-Screen in Minecraft

Do you remember the good old days when you played console games with your friends on a split-screen? You can now recreate those memories and create fantastic new ones using Minecraft split-screen. This option is only available on consoles (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation), but it is possible to create new memories with Minecraft split-screen.

Your TV screen or console needs to support at least 720p resolution. Split-screen isn't supported by PlayStation Vita because it uses QHD (1/4th of 1080p). Split-screen isn't supported by WiiU which has resolution of 480p. You'll be required to connect a qualifying device to a TV screen with an HDMI or RGB component cable.

Read on for further information and steps to split the screen in Minecraft.

Minecraft Splitscreen Requirements

As mentioned previously, you'll need a console and a TV with 720p or greater. Also, you'll need to set the video resolution of your console to match that of the TV. This is easy. You can see the display options on the settings of your console. PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X usually set the resolution when using HDMI. However, prior manual adjustments may cause issues that require manual reconfiguration.

You can split the screen in Minecraft locally or online. The local split-screen is able to accommodate up to four players at a time. Playing with friends or family can be very enjoyable with a large TV screen. Let's begin with tips for local split screen, and then we will talk about online split screen.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Locally

Local split-screen is the term used to describe playing on one console, and not being mistaken with LAN (local area network) play, where multiple devices get used. On any device, up to four people can play. The steps to play Minecraft in split-screen mode are different slightly for each game console, but the instructions below will cover all of them.

Here's how to set up a "local split-screen in Minecraft:

1. Connect the console to the TV using an HDMI or component cable, and then launch Minecraft.

2. If you'd like to start from scratch, click Create New or load a previous game world from the list.

3. In the Multiplayer settings, slide Multiplayer Game to the off position.

4. Set the difficulty and other game options to your preference.

5. Choose Create or Play to launch the game.

6. Use a different controller to activate the second console player and then click the appropriate button(s) to add them to Minecraft. For example, the PS4 makes use of the PS button to activate a user , and the Options button (pressed twice) to add the second player to Minecraft.

7. Select the account of the other player (if not already done). XBOX 360 and PS3 use the Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, which means you press Start on the second controller to be in the game, then it will prompt you to log into the console.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Online

You can play Minecraft on a split-screen with your friends locally, while also playing with others online. Online play does not come with a split screen. However there are two or more local players can share the split-screen with other players who are online. Here's how to set the split-screen up for online play.

1. Log into your console with your Xbox Live Gold account or PlayStation Plus account. Local accounts and players on XBOX 360 or XBOX One cannot join the XBOX 360 or XBOX One. The PS3 does not require PlayStation Plus, but the PS4 does.

2. For Minecraft Legacy editions, open your console and select Play Game, then Load or Create. For Bedrock editions, select Create New or choose a game on your list.

3. You can adjust your game options to your preferences and then start your game. Before you begin playing ensure that Multiplayer Game is enabled in Bedrock.

4. Other "remote players" can accept your invitation (required) to join your gaming. Split-screen capabilities can only be used with up to four people per console, however they can also play online with other players.

Minecraft's an interesting, fun, and creative game. Like all games, it's better when you play with your friends. You can now split the screen and play Minecraft as you would play older console games with other players.

PC users might feel left out and feel excluded, which is normal. If you have a huge screen, it's a shame you're unable to split it or do the same thing on console. You can search online for third-party screen-splitting software however, they might not be reliable and are not officially licensed.
