Hackers associated with the governments of China, Iran, North Korea and Turkey are exploiting a major vulnerability in a software that is used by big tech firms around the world, Microsoft has warned. Foreign hackers have apparently discovered the flaw in Java-based software dubbed "Log4j" which businesses use to log data into their applications. A top US cybersecurity official stated that there was no evidence to suggest that federal networks have been breached using the vulnerability. However the Log4j vulnerability could affect the majority of the internet. Apple's cloud computing service as well as security firm Cloudflare and Minecraft one of the most popular video games, all run Log4j according to researchers.

The $1.75 trillion climate and economic package, the Build Back Better bill is likely to be delayed until next year. Biden and Democrats had believed they could get the bill passed prior to the end of the year. However, talks between Biden, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Joe Manchin, who is a key swing vote, have not resulted in any resolution. The child tax credit is among the key issues that has held back progress. Biden has made it his top priority since it provides aid to families and aids in reducing child poverty. Manchin however, wants to leave it to be left out of the bill. Even even if Biden and Manchin agreed, the bill still needs to be approved and finalized for the vote.

A Miami-Dade grand jury overseeing the Surfside condo collapse that killed 98 in June has released a report that outlines ways to avoid a similar tragedy. The report suggests more inspectors, staff and money to identify unsafe buildings and raises the standards for inspectors. The panel recommended that the certification process for residential properties be made at least 40 years after the building is constructed. The Surfside condo's 40-year recertification in 2018 was carried out by an engineering company. They found concrete deterioration that was "deep" however they could not perform repairs due to structural stability concerns. Although it wasn't their job to uncover what caused the deadly collapse, the grand jury also pointed out that, more than six months later, the investigators still don't know the exact cause of the collapse. it occurred.
