Minetest is the free and open source Voxel game engine, influenced originally by Minecraft it's gradually becoming more and better, with a variety of games available for it. Minetest 5.4.0 is receiving a new release. They are releasing a first release Candidate. This is the time they require as many users to test the software and make sure it works properly.
Back when Minetest 5.0 released in 2019 it added an in-game UI for downloading games and mods. It worked and they improved it each release but a problem was the dependency system. MCNAMES A mod would require another, and the cycle continues. Finding them all was a pain but maybe not anymore. The 5.4 release includes a new interface for downloading mods and games along with dependency resolution, the ability to update all, as well as download queues.
Simple and effective It works!
It makes it much easier and faster. This allows you to have your Minetest experience exactly the way you would like it. Do you want to squeeze every mod you can into the core Minetest game? Try it. Want to try out a whole conversion game? You can also try an entire game of conversion.
This might actually motivate me to play more Minetest!
