Dari beberapa literatur diketahui bahwa Leviathan adalah salah satu dari tujuh pangeran dari neraka dan pintu neraka ada di mulutnya (Hellmouth). Leviathan identik dengan rakasa laut besar. Leviathan adalah salah satu setan yang dikatakan untuk menggoda laki-laki dalam melakukan penghujatan. Penghujatan ini bisa diartikan karena alasan dendam yang timbul karena iri atau dengki dengan sesuatu hal.
Leviathan menurut beberapa kepercayaan :
Leviathan adalah sejenis monster laut (berukuran sangat besar. Di dalam kitab Perjanjian Lama dan dalam kepercayaan Yahudi, diterangkan bahwa Leviathan memang sengaja diciptakan oleh Tuhan.
Dalam kepercayaan Yahudi, Leviathan diciptakan Tuhan pada hari kelima penciptaan bumi, dan bahkan dikatakan bahwa Tuhan menciptakan Leviathan jantan dan betina berpasangan, tetapi reproduksinya terbatas.
Dalam kepercayaan Kristen, leviathan diasosiasikan sama dengan Devil atau Satan.seringkali juga mendapat julukan sebagai Rabab. Leviathan juga digambarkan sebagai sesosok binatang.
Dalam kepercayaan Satanic, Leviathan adalah pangeran neraka ke-empat yang mewakili unsur elemen air.
