LaunchBar is clever. For instance I use Mailplane instead of Mail.app, and LaunchBar has learned this and when I activate LaunchBar and type the letter "m" it shows me Mailplane. If I type 't', it shows me Twitterrific but when I type 'te', it shows me ITerm.

Launching apps is not the only option you can perform using it. You can also launch Preference Panes and create new events in iCal. Search your address book. One of my most-loved 'tricks' is to find someone in my Addressbook, navigate directly to their phone number, then press Enter. LaunchBar will display the number "fullscreen" in the following format:



LaunchBar also allows you to copy information from the Address Book and use it to start email messages. Utilizing the "Instant Send" feature, I can open an image in Finder and then trigger LaunchBar and press "Command" twice (you can select from a variety of key commands to trigger Instant Send) then LaunchBar will open the file in the program I choose to open following, similar to what happens the case if you right-clicked on the file, chosen the option to open it, but your hands weren't even touching the mouse. The program will create a brand new mail message with the attached file if you click "open with" in your mail client. Perhaps you have an image that normally opens in Preview but you'd like to edit it in Pixelmator; Instant Send makes it simpler and faster.



LaunchBar also has a built-in calculator and clipboard history. Do you use search engines? LaunchBar lets you create searches right inside LaunchBar. LaunchBar offers a variety of search engines and you can also add your own.



Quite simply, LaunchBar is one of my absolute favorite applications. I've tried the others, and I always return to LaunchBar.
