Amazon launches Fire TV, a game and video streaming set-topbox.
Another mini-console that is Android-based and cheap.

Amazon today unveiled the Fire TV, an Android-based set top box that supports games and streaming video.
The Fire TV is available from today for US$99, and there is a $40 controller available that is mandatory for some games, and lets users access Amazon's GameCircle social gaming service.
Fire runs "Mojito", version 3.0 of Android-based Kindle Fire OS. According to Amazon this will make it "simple for developers to port their services and games to Fire TV."
It features it has a 1.7 quad-core Qualcomm Krait 300 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a Qualcomm Adreno 320 GPU, and a dual-band wireless radio and two antennas that support 1080p streaming over 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi.
The Fire also offers HDMI and optical audio, which includes support for Dolby Digital Plus and 7.1 surround sound pass-through, as well as an Ethernet port and an USB 2.0 port.
Amazon states that the Fire TV will not compete with gaming consoles. game-boat.com Instead, it's targeted at people who don't have a console, but who can play games on their tablet, smartphone or another mobile device.
Games available on Fire TV so far include Minecraft: Pocket Edition; Asphalt 8: Airborne and an endless runner inspired by Pixar's Monsters University.
Amazon Game Studios is also developing original games for the box, such as a first-person shooter/tower defense hybrid called Sev Zero.
Amazon announced that the median cost of a Fire TV game is US$1.85 Prices start at US$0.99 and free-to-play games will be available as well.
2K Games, Disney, Double Fine Productions, Electronic Arts, Sega, Telltale Games and Ubisoft are all producing games for the Fire, and Amazon has claimed that "thousands" of games would be available by the end of next month.
The remote on the device is integrated with voice search and the Fire will allow access to images stored on Amazon Cloud Drive, its X-Ray service for TV and films, and its streaming service.
The Twitch app will soon be available alongside other services such as Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu, MLB.TV and the WWE Network.
Fire TV will offer Pandora, iTunes Radio, as also songs bought on Amazon from May.
Amazon currently does not ship the Fire TV to New Zealand.
