ASAP Rocky Blanket Revealed
If you were among the millions who watched the 2021 Met Gala earlier this month, it's likely that the first thing you noticed about ASAP Rocky's multicolour outfit was that it looked like something from a quilt. And you'd be right -- because the cape the rapper wore to the event was actually a quilt which was repurposed into a couture creation by ERL designer Eli Russell Linnetz for the occasion.


Linnetz spotted the quilt in the thrift store and was immediately enthralled by it, noting that the design was in line with his for the night's "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" theme. Zak Foster is a Brooklyn-based artist that has a specialization in quilting, was chosen to give the quilt personal elements. Foster's previous work involved creating memory quilts using old clothing for families in mourning, so he knew exactly how to alter the blanket to make it more personal to Rocky.


It was a massive and oversized cape that was draped like an enormous shawl over the"F**kin' Problems star as he took a stroll down the red carpet with Rihanna. It instantly made waves and attracted attention. it's now clear that the quilt-turned-cape had a much more meaningful origin than initially thought. According to the @books_n_babies account on Instagram, the quilt was made by her great-grandmother. In a viral post she shared a picture with the quilt along with a picture of Rocky's Cape, her grandma as well as a picture of her grandmother on the Met Gala Red Carpet.


While it's certainly an incredible way to express love for a loved one but it's also an incredible fashion story that speaks to the power of bespoke and upcycling. The same method -- also known as boro was employed in the making of the cape worn by Rock's Rocky is an old Japanese art method of transforming worn clothing into new pieces with scraps and the original garment's fabric. The process can be utilized with almost any kind of material, from jeans and bandanas to basketball caps, t-shirts and t-shirts.



ASAP Rocky Merch 's no surprise that this quilt was spotted on the back of a rap superstar because the rapper has been wearing Proleta Re Art denim pants and jackets since last year. In the past, he was caught wrapping his newborn son in one of the quilts for a beach shoot with Rihanna.
