What is a Tonic Clonic Episode?
Tonic clonic episode is a generalised convulsive seizure. This form of seizures is rarely seen in adults, and in children, they tend to occur later in life. They cause loss of consciousness, drowsiness, and tachycardia.

Epilepsy Alarms Epileptiform activity starts in the clonic phase and can last for many minutes. The clonic phase is usually followed by the postictal phase. The postictal phase is a period of relaxation where the patient regains consciousness.

Various studies have shown that tonic clonic episodes may co-exist with migraine attacks in patients with a mutation in the gene G301R. However, these findings are speculative.

Using the EEG to detect the pathogenic mechanism underlying the episode is a good idea, but isn't always possible. In the case of the patient described above, the ECG showed polyspikes and low voltage activity, but no abnormalities were found on routine blood tests.

There are a number of other neurological conditions to consider. Examples include West Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. These disorders are often associated with trauma and hypoxia.

Other signs and symptoms of neurological disorders include muscle jerking, changes in posture, pain, altered mental state, and loss of bowel and bladder function. Some are also caused by metabolic disturbance.

A few simple sensory seizures can produce tingling in the face and extremities. This may be due to the presence of parasthesia. On the other hand, absence seizures are more common than you might think, and they are the most common type of tonic clonic episode. Emfit Epilepsy Alarm
