Tonic-Clonic Alert
A generalized tonic-clonic seizure (GTCS) happens in about 25% of people with epilepsy. This type of seizure occurs when the part of your brain that controls muscle contractions and relaxations is faulty.
The typical appearance of a GTCS includes rigid stiffening of the body, rapid and rhythmical jerking of the arms and legs (clonic phase) and then loss of consciousness. Gradually, the person regains consciousness and may feel confused, exhausted, physically sore or sad for a few hours.
Injuries are common with a GTCS, so it’s important to keep a close eye on your loved one while they’re having a seizure. If they pass out, clench their jaw or collide with anything, you should call 911.
Embrace monitors the skin, which is innervated by the sympathetic branch of your autonomic nervous system. It continuously examines the Electrodermal Activity (EDA) and motion data to detect patterns that usually occur during a generalized tonic-clonic seizure.
The Alert App pairs with Embrace and sends your chosen caregivers an automated SMS and phone call when Embrace detects a GTCS. Epilepsy Alarms It’s important that your paired smartphone is within 30 feet/10 meters of Embrace so the device can transmit its data to the App.
