There?s nothing wrong with playing poker around the kitchen or dining room table together with your friends. Seriously, the best section of poker night with friends is poker and friends.
Still, let?s face it, even though the poker action is just as fun, crazy, competitive, etc. sitting at the same table where your two-year-old spills her Cheerios, there may be something nice about having a place to flee to play the overall game.
Fortunately, if you have the space in your own home or condo or apartment or wherever, outfitting it doesn?t must be terribly expensive based on what you elect to do. Even better, you have a number of good options.
Because I want everyone to have that place reserved for playing cards, I tried to find a mix of things you can easily acquire to transform your space right into a poker male or female cave. This list is just a start, but hopefully it offers you a good foundation for making the perfect setup for the next poker night.
Poker Table
While I said that I would find options for a variety of different budgets, I did pretty much start off with the most expensive option. Hopefully, that?s not too off-putting, but I simply find the notion of having my very own felt poker table to be too cool.Home Poker Table
Fortunately, you can find different shapes, sizes, and cost levels for poker tables and there's probably one to fit your allowance. However, the buyer must be aware. Not every table is manufactured the same (clearly) plus some of the cheaper ones are simply that: cheaply made. Still, your basic options boil right down to standalone tables and table toppers. I have seen both that work nicely and I have seen both not be worth the particle board that they were made.
Standalone Poker Tables
The standalone tables are just that: a whole table with its own legs that has a layer of felt, usually decorated with various signs and symbols from a poker game. This might be basically the same as what is found in a casino or online at live dealer casinos (though much, much cheaper usually.) A few of these tables have a topper you can put over them that either protects the felt or lets the poker table double as a real table.
When possible, avoid dual purposing a standalone table. You probably paid a lot of cash for that, and drinks, ink, garbage, items of food, etc. have a way of penetrating the table cover and ruining your felt.
Poker Table Toppers
The other option is really a table topper that contains the felt with the expectation of you putting the entire topper on the table. These can be found at Wal-Mart for less than 100 bucks, but I would avoid that. The cheap ones look really terrible.
If you can, find a topper that is either black or the same color as your table and that fits snugly on top of it. I've seen these look cheap, but when you can find one that fits tight, it can be hard to differentiate from the real table.
Needless to say, the nice ones do cost more.
Neon Signs
There?s just something in regards to a neon sign that is incredible tacky before cards or the cold beers hit the table. Due to that, if I have a space dedicated to either cards or liquor, I love to have a neon sign or two.
Like poker tables, neon signs vary in cost from around one hundred dollars to a lot more than you?d ever want to devote to a neon sign. Still, what you want from your neon sign is virtually up to you. You can honor your favorite pastime (beer or poker or both), your favorite sports teams, your favorite slogan, etc.
Even better, you may also get the neon sign customized and also have it say virtually whatever you want. Nevertheless, you take action, if it matches your poker cave, it?s the perfect addition. Just don?t keep it on following the game is over.
Otherwise, it just sucks up electricity and looks silly.
Custom Decks
It?s your poker cave, shouldn?t they be your personal poker decks, too? I certain think so.
When I play in a casino, you better bet the cards are branded to the place I'm playing. Now, given the power of Etsy along with other online poker sites, you can customize both the backs and fronts of one's playing cards.
Create individual decks for all your friends or create decks that proudly brag to the planet that you are the best player out there. Whatever you want, you may get your poker decks customized to look just the way you want.
Better still, given today?s technology, these custom decks are inexpensive and will be ordered in small batches.
Card Shuffler
I?m probably too easily impressed, but there is just something awesome about the automated card shufflers. I love watching the dealers in NEVADA casinos load decks into the shuffler, hearing that buh-dat-dat-dat-dat sound and seeing sorted cards turn out the other end.Card ShufflerThe good news is that I can take this card shuffler experience with me wherever I go because I can buy my very own card shufflers for home use.
Unsurprisingly, like a large amount of the items on this list, card shufflers can be found in many different sizes (think deck capacity) and gentleness to your cards. Sadly, most of the cheaper card shufflers don?t shuffle the cards so much because they tear them up and throw them in the air.
Fifty-two card pick up is never fun, particularly when you?re looking to get a game going.
Instead, if you prefer a card shuffler, spend a little cash and get an extremely rated card shuffler or don?t waste your cash. Also, if you opt for a card shuffler, don?t get custom cards with different backs. Yes, it'll be cool to shuffle your custom decks, nonetheless it?s easy to count cards with cards of different backings.
Finally, when you get a custom cards shuffler, there will doubtless function as one individual who accuses you of cheating as you have a ?rigged shuffler.? Do all you can to knock that player from the game first, just to feed their paranoia.
It'll add that extra tiny bit to your game.
Custom Poker Chips
Keeping with the custom theme, I am a big fan of custom poker chips. I like to look down at the ?money? and see my graven (or printed) image staring back at me. I find that the jokes concerning this just about write themselves.
The good news is that there are a lot of places on the net which will put a custom image, logo, small saying, etc. on some pretty durable poker chips. I suggest buying them because they are fairly inexpensive and nothing says ?this is my house? like chips together with your picture.
Custom Beer With Kegerator
This last piece item is actually two items, but they work best together.
First, if you don?t have a kegerator in your poker cave, you may want to just get one. Sure, this isn?t college and you also?re not in a frat/sorority any more, but that doesn?t mean you can?t at least enjoy a pony keg of beer.
Also, you?re not just a broke college student, which means you don?t have to order cheap swill. Instead, get yourself a kegerator and order a good keg of beer that you as well as your friends can enjoy throughout a protracted nights poker. Then benefit from the beer responsibly on the next few nights of sports or other television viewing opportunities.
Also, when you are stumped as to what type of beer you need to serve in your kegerator, might I suggest you make your personal beer. That?s right, it is possible to personalize everything about your poker room down to the type of brew you serve.
As a result of magic of the Internet, it is now possible to go surfing to 1 of several sites and set up a personalized beer recipe. It is possible to pick the ingredients and several places online will make the beer and send it for you.
Clearly, investing in a keg?s worth might be expensive, so that you can start with several bottles (personalized to your brand if you desire.) Once you have your recipe down, then you can certainly see about making (and consuming) it in mass quantities (responsibly, of course.)
Taking your ultimate poker area to the next level is simpler than you think. As you can see, there are several different options for things you can do to the poker cave based on your budget and what other residents of your property are willing to tolerate.
If you need something low key, try a few customized poker decks or chips sets. If you would like something a little more ostentatious, try a neon sign and even that custom beer label you always wished to start. All of it is good and will make your poker cave unforgettable. If you?ve watched professional poker players betting on television, you have undoubtedly heard the word ?value bet? thrown around. However, in the event that you?re new to poker or just are not in to the jargon of poker, you may have no idea what a value bet is.
You may know they're important (should they weren?t, would they be discussed so often), nevertheless, you may have no idea why. Further, you may not know why the poker pros are making value bets or how you might go about making them throughout a poker game.
Fortunately, value betting is really easy and, actually, is most likely something you do at all times without realizing that you're value betting. With that said, even if you didn?t know you're value betting, hopefully you knew what you were doing and won some money.
Either way, I am going to take the time to dive into what, exactly, is really a value bet, the best way to use them to make money and what you should look at before you do. This article is geared primarily towards beginning poker players, but the goal is that even experienced pros may learn something.
With that said, let?s look at value betting and what they are.
What is Value Betting?
A value bet in poker is once you place a bet in the hopes that other players at the table will call that bet. When you are acquainted with your poker terminology, it is the exact opposite of a bluff and almost the opposite of a continuation bet.
Why Value Bet?
The question remains, though, why you might want to value bet. Ultimately, it all boils down to how you earn money at poker and the way you win tournaments.
The simple answer is that you win money at poker once you win a pot. Sure, that much is obvious. However, it?s not necessarily enough to just win the pot. To be able to earn the big chip stacks, you need to earn large pots. The only method to obtain a pot larger is by betting more chips and getting other players to throw their chips into the pot.
There are always going to be hands when you just want everyone to fold (as you don?t have the goods or you are not sure should you choose.) That?s once you bet big and are basically bluffing. However, that?s another subject.
How exactly to Value Bet
To value bet, the vital thing you need is a strong hand. While it?s never certain that you have the winning hand, you must have a collection, a straight, two pair, etc. If you're not reasonably sure that you've got a strong hand, you aren't value betting and that matters because the technique for how you read the table is different.
Therefore, for the purposes of value betting assume that you flopped something good. Not at all something that could be good, but something actually good.
At that point, you need to determine how many chips to bet. There's an art form here because you want to bet enough chips that everyone with a worse hand than you stays in but not so few that you don?t maximize your earnings.
In Other Words?
In the event that you were to bet something small, perhaps one-tenth the pot, the probabilities are that everyone will call. That?s good as you?re likely to make chips. However, they could also have stayed in if you had bet one-third of the pot or more. It all depends on your read of the table.
In general, if preflop betting was aggressive or the bets before you were aggressive, there?s an excellent chance it is possible to bet a lot more than if everyone is being timid. It?s hard to sit here and analyze confirmed table because there can be a lot of factors.
However, you'll generally know if your opponents are aggressive or playing tight.
Once you place your bet, watch how everyone reacts. Should they call immediately, they believe they will have the goods and you will place a higher bet next time. If others tend to be more timid, keep your bets smaller to keep roping them along.
As a side note, I like to bet more aggressively because the round goes on. My own philosophy is that I make my money value betting post-flop. From then on, I want the others to pay to stay in the game or, preferably fold therefore i get all of those chips I value-betted away.
When to Value Bet
If you believe that your read of the board is basically accurate and you likely do have the best hand at the table, then you can certainly value bet if you want.
This makes value betting different than a lot of other styles of betting where placing in your bet earlier in the round puts you at a steep disadvantage. This disadvantage originates from the fact that the info you'll have gained by seeing how others bet.
With that said, the down the road in the round you bet, the better off you're because you do gain additional information. You can view your opponents and see if they are betting aggressively, splashing big stacks of chips, acting very cautiously, overthinking their moves, etc.
Still, if you calculate your hand and the chances are you have the very best hand, value bet away.
When Not to Value Bet
A value bet really only works if you have a strong hand. In the event that you don?t have an actual strong hand, don?t value bet. Also, if you feel that there?s the opportunity that another person can create a strong hand, be careful of value betting. You want to win those chips, not give them to someone else.
By ?actual? strong hand, I mean a collection, a straight, a flush, etc. You are not one card away from a great hand and you also?re certainly not attempting to draw to anything. You merely value bet once you have the cards to win.
Again, the are reasons to bet when you are drawing to a straight, hoping you will catch a flush on the next card, etc. But that is not value betting and follows another strategy.
Also, if another person at the table gets very aggressive, flashing massive stacks of chips or reraising or generally going after your stack, you need to decide whether to value bet. In these situations, I have a tendency to call just so I don?t reveal any additional information to my opponent.
EVERYTHING YOU May Signal ONCE YOU Value Bet
The good thing about value betting is that you will be not necessarily sending a solid message to all of those other table when you take action. You do send a message that you like your cards, but there are many of reasons why you might like your cards: you actually love your cards (as in the case of a value bet), you're hoping to complete a straight or flush, you're bluffing, etc.
Therefore, it really is challenging for your opponents to know why you are making the worthiness bet. All they know is that you are ready to risk chips in which to stay the game.
In the event that you don?t bet a high fraction of the pot or act generally aggressive, you are not sharing plenty of information with your opponents.
What to Do ONCE YOU Think Others are Value Betting
Fold.
If you think that your opponent is value betting, then you think they:
Think they have the better hand
Are going to make you splash chips in which to stay the game
Now, it?s up to you to see should they actually have the higher hand, but chances are, if you think they're value betting they do.
That?s why you don?t want any part of that action. Fold your hand and keep the chips.
How are you going to recognize if they're value betting? If the person making the bet is generally timid or conservative, you may not know. If they're aggressive (even when they don?t have the cards) and suddenly calm down for no reason, though, that needs to be suspicious and you should take a minute to figure out why.
While value betting is probably not probably the most exciting topic ever in the annals of poker, it really is something that you have to know how to employ when you play the overall game, especially in tournaments.
Remember, when you are playing competitive poker, it?s not enough to just win a pot. If you win twelve pots and only collect the big and small blinds, you can perfectly find your chip stack is nothing compared to a person who took down a large pot.
The solution is make that pot grow. Make another players toss their chips in and, just like the poker master you're, take those chips from them. It?s an easy enough concept to understand. Now, escape there and use it for yourself. If you want to learn ways to get an edge at gambling without cheating, this can be the post for you. Actually, there?s a good name because of this activity:
Advantage gambling
I should explain that cheating can get you an edge once you?re gambling, but that?s not what this post is about. Advantage gambling is known as different things from cheating. It?s a way of exploiting the nature of a gambling game in a manner that gives you a mathematical edge.
The first thing you need to understand is that you?re more often than not gambling with a mathematical disadvantage. That is true whether you?re a casino gambler, a poker player, or a sports bettor. The means with which your opponent gets the edge varies by activity, but it?s always there.
The House Edge in Casino Games
With casino games, the home gets a mathematical edge by offering payouts that don?t match the chances of winning.
Here?s a good example:
If you?re playing roulette, you may place a bet on red or black. If all of the possible outcomes were red and black, and if there were an equal number of each, you?d have a game where you?d break even in the long term. You?d eventually win just as much as you lost, because of the nature of the overall game.
But a roulette wheel has 38 possible outcomes. 18 of them are red, 18 of them are black, and 2 of these are green. Those 2 green possibilities (the 0s) are what supply the house its mathematical edge.
Here?s another example from exactly the same game:
You place a bet on a single number. It takes care of at 35 to at least one 1. (You bet $100, and you win $3500.)
But the odds of winning that bet aren?t 35 to at least one 1. They?re 37 to at least one 1.
In the end, you?ll lose more often than you?ll win.
That difference may be the house edge. In the short run, you can beat the home edge by getting lucky. That?s just variance.
In the long term, though, the actual outcomes of a game will eventually begin to resemble your predicted results. The casino is fielding thousands of bets per hour, 24/7. Their results look like the mathematical prediction.
The Rake in Poker
Poker doesn?t work like casino games. You?re not playing against the casino; you?re playing contrary to the other players. If the overall game were strictly luck, you?d break even over time.
2 factors prevent this:
The first is the element of skill involved in the game. In the short run, anyone will get lucky and win a hand. But over the long haul, the more skilled players have a mathematical edge on the less skilled players.
The second reason is the rake. Every time a casino hosts a poker game, they take a percentage of each pot in trade for hosting the game. This percentage is usually around 5%. Pots usually need to reach a particular size prior to the casino collects a rake, too.
In a home game, there might not be considered a rake. In fact, there usually isn?t.
But here?s underneath line about your edge and the rake:
You don?t have to be more skilled than the other players to obtain an edge. You need to be skilled enough to overcome the 5% rake, too.
The Vig in Sports Betting
When you place a bet with a bookmaker, they require you to risk $110 for every $100 you wish to win. This doesn?t mean your bets must be in increments of $110. It means that the payoffs match that proportion. It is possible to bet $22 on a game, nevertheless, you?ll only win $20.
This means that the bookmaker will profit. Their goal will be to get an equal amount of action on either side of a game. The losers pay off the winners. But the payouts are smaller compared to the amount the losers lost, as a result of vig.
To win at sports betting in the end, you not only need to be good enough to win a lot more than 50% of that time period. You should win often enough to compensate for the vig.
The vig is like the rake in poker.
The way to get a Mathematical Edge in Gambling
With all 3 of these broad activities, you could find methods for getting a mathematical edge. If you apply that mathematical edge repeatedly, as time passes you?ll probably see a profit. You?ll also be that rarest of creatures ? an edge gambler.
Some people make a living via their advantage gambling activities. The ones who appear to do best at it will be the gamblers who participate in advantage gambling teams of some kind.
Below, I?ve listed 6 specific ways you can get an advantage at various gambling activities. I will point out that there are many games where one can?t get an edge, ever.
But this post concerns the games where you can:
1. Counting Cards in Blackjack
Everyone knows that blackjack is a game in which a skillful player will get a mathematical edge over the house. But you need to know more than just how to play each hand mathematically correctly.
However, you do need to know how to do this first, before you can get an edge. The home edge for blackjack for those who don?t use basic strategy is around 4%. This means as time passes, you can expect to lose 4% of all you bet at the blackjack table.
Basic strategy can reduce that edge to between 0.5% and 1%. The guidelines set up also affect the house edge when you?re using basic strategy. For example, if the casino has the dealer hit a soft 17 instead of stand on it, the home edge goes up by 0.2%.
Basic strategy identifies the mathematically best way to play every possible submit every possible situation in blackjack. It?s simpler to learn than you imagine. The dealer only has 10 possible up-cards, and you also only have 14 possible totals to handle. Most people memorize basic strategy from a chart.
But basic strategy is the start of blackjack wisdom.
If you need to get an edge over the casino, you have to be able to do more than just play each hand perfectly. You should be able to improve the size of your bets once the situation is favorable. And you also need to be in a position to lower the size of your bets once the situation is unfavorable.
That?s where card counting will come in.
Some people have the mistaken belief that you should have the ability to memorize all of the cards which were played to get an advantage over the casino. That could help, probably, nonetheless it?s entirely unnecessary. All of the card counters I understand use a heuristic system of measuring just how many high cards and how many low cards are left in the deck.
You see, the cards in blackjack have a memory. When an ace is dealt, it?s gone from the deck before deck gets shuffled again. This changes the probabilities.
Here?s an easily-understood example:
You?re playing in a blackjack game with an individual deck, and all the aces arrived in the initial 2 hands. The likelihood of obtaining a natural (a 2-card hand worth 21 points) is now 0. You 'must' have aces to acquire a blackjack.
That hand is essential because it pays off at 3 to 2.
However, if a lot of low cards have died from the deck, and lots of aces and 10s remain in the deck, the probability of obtaining a natural improve.
When you have a better than usual chance of obtaining a 3 to 2 payout, and you raise your bet, you?re putting the odds in your favor.
You?re getting an edge over the casino.
How big an advantage can you overcome the casino?
Most of the estimates I?ve seen said that counting cards offers you an advantage of 1% to 2%.
Here?s how exactly to do it:
Every time an ace or 10 is dealt, subtract 1 from the count. Every time a low card (2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) is dealt, add 1 to the count. When the count is positive, the deck?s in your favor, and you should increase your bet.
Casinos make it hard to count cards. A great way they do that is by putting multiple decks into the shoe. This dilutes the result of each card dealt. Card counters compensate for this by converting their running count into a true count.
You do this by estimating just how many decks are left in the shoe. Then divide the running count by the amount of decks left in the shoe.
The real count is what determines how much you increase your bet by. The bigger the true count, the more you bet. Usually, you think in terms of units. If you?re betting $10 per hand, that?s one unit. If the count is +3, you'll raise your bet by 3 units, or $30. So you?d be betting $40 per hand.
Here?s something else the casinos do to thwart card counters. If they think you?re counting cards, they?ll request you to stick with their other games besides blackjack. Sometimes they?ll even request you to leave the casino.
Some casinos also use automatic shuffling machines. In this case, the discards are fed back into the deck immediately. This eliminates the game?s memory and makes it impossible for you to get an edge.
Blackjack has a selection of other opportunities to get an edge, like hole carding and shuffle tracking. Most advantage players start with card counting before shifting to these other strategies.
2. Betting on Sports
One method to win when betting on sports would be to become a better handicapper compared to the handicappers working for the bookmakers.
Handicappers are the individuals who determine what the appropriate point spread is for a game that will create a 50/50 potential for winning.
The most common types of handicapping occur in football games. To get an equal amount of action on each side, the bookmaker requires your team to win by way of a certain number of points if it?s the favorite.
For example, if the Patriots certainly are a 14. point favorite on the Browns, a bet on the Patriots loses if they only win by 7 points. They didn?t cover the idea spread.
3. Combining Perfect Video Poker Strategy with the Casino?s Comp System
Video poker games look like slot machines, but they?re anything but. That?s because video poker machines make available to you the same odds you?d see in the event that you were using a real deck of cards. To be able to know what the probability of getting an ace of hearts is, it?s simple:
1 in 52
This has much more serious implications than you may think. With a slot machine game, you haven't any method of knowing what the probability of obtaining a specific symbol or mix of symbols is. You understand the payouts for the possible combinations, but that?s useless minus the probability of getting each combination.
However in video poker, computers can calculate the likelihood of getting each specific hand. When you know the payoff and the likelihood of getting it, it is possible to calculate the payback percentage for the entire game.
Payback percentage is a metric in the gambling industry that measures just how much of every bet you mathematically be prepared to get back every time you place a bet. It?s the reverse side of the house edge coin. In the event that you subtract a casino game?s house edge from 100%, you obtain the payback percentage.
Here?s another thing about video poker:
You have decisions to create on every hand, and the grade of those decisions affects your outcome.
Here?s how the game works:
You put your money in and push the ?deal? button. You get a 5-card hand. You then get to decide which cards to keep and throw away, just like you would in a game of 5-card draw.
You have 32 possibilities with each hand, but only 1 of those possibilities gets the highest expected return. If you can get close to the correct decision on nearly every hand, you can achieve the mathematically predicted return for the game.
Pay tables vary from machine to machine, but computer programmers and gambling experts have crunched the numbers to determine which games and pay tables have the highest payback percentage.
A small number of rare video poker games have a payback percentage of over 100%. They?re usually small stakes games. And the edge you have is small and based on playing near perfectly.
Video poker games where the payback percentage is near 100% are reasonably common, though. For instance, Jacks or Better includes a pay table called 9/6. That?s since it pays off at 9 for 1 for a complete house and 6 for 1 for a flush.
With optimal strategy, the payback percentage for that game is 99.54%. The home edge is only 0.46%, making this game comparable to blackjack.
If only we're able to find a way to obtain a few tenths of a share point back in our favor?
As luck would have it, we can.
Almost every casino on earth includes a players? club, or the slots club. It is a rewards program where you get 0.1% or 0.2% of one's action back in the form of rebates and comps.
Knowing that, the home edge drops to 0.36% and even 0.26%.
But you still don?t have an advantage.
Where do you get the rest of it?
Most casinos also have schedules where they double or triple their rewards program. If you play during those hours, you may be getting up to 0.6% of your action back rewards.
If you can get 0.6% back on your action, and if it is possible to face an edge of 0.46%, you can play with an advantage of 0.14% over the casino.
Don?t get too excited, yet, though. That?s a little edge.
In addition, if the overall game is for low stakes, the amount of money you expect to win each hour is low enough to almost be silly.
Here?s the way you would calculate that:
Assume you?re playing a quarter game and betting 5 coins per hand. That?s $1.25 in action per hand.
Most video poker players enter 600 hands per hour. This implies you?re putting $750 into action per hour (600 X $1.25).
Your edge is 0.14% of this, this means your long-term expected winnings are $1.05 each hour ($750 X .14%).
Of course, you will discover video poker machines for higher stakes. You can also find games with an improved payback percentage.
But it?s hard to make a living being an advantage video poker player.
What you can do being an advantage player at the video poker machines, though, is enjoy cool casino vacations for very little.
That?s not just a bad deal, either.
Jean Scott, aka The Frugal Gambler, has made a lifetime career as a gambling writer explaining how exactly to do just that.
4. Playing Poker at an Expert Level
Since poker is a game of skill, you can obtain an edge over the other players. Lots of poker players have selective memories and think they?re better at the overall game than they are. The true experts love those opponents most of all.
Getting an advantage at poker isn?t too different from getting an edge at blackjack. It?s about putting more money into the pot once the odds are on your side and putting less overall in the pot if they?re not.
Expert poker players begin by comparing the pot odds with the chances of winning the hand.
Here?s an example:
You?re playing Texas hold?em, and you have 4 cards to a flush on the flop. You only need one more card of that suit to make your hand, and you also have 2 cards to come. The odds to getting your flush are about 2 to at least one 1.
There?s $50 in the pot, and someone bets $10. The pot is offering you 5 to at least one 1 odds on a 2 to at least one 1 shot at winning, so that?s a bet you should call.
That?s an over-simplified example, but you can see the way you?d get yourself a long-term edge by calling that bet.
You then have to account for the likelihood of winning bets by betting and raising against few opponents. You also need in order to guess at a range of hands that your opponent might have.
Finally, you can pay attention to your opponents? playing tendencies. These are called ?tells?. If you can get a clue in what your opponent has in his hand predicated on his behavior, it is possible to grab more of an advantage.
The trick is getting enough of an edge to overcome the rake. You may be a winning player, but in the event that you?re not winning at a high enough level to overcome the 5% rake, you?re going to lose money in the long run.
Entire websites have already been written about how to become an improved poker player. Entire books have already been written on the subject too.
You can read all of the websites and all the books and still be a losing player, though. It takes practice and the right kind of personality to get an edge playing poker.
5. Learn the Break-Even Points for Various Progressive Jackpots
Progressive jackpots will be the constantly-increasing jackpot amounts you see on various slot machine and video poker games. With a slot machine game, it?s impossible to know when the progressive jackpot has gotten high enough to increase the payback percentage for the overall game to over 100%.
But remember our friendly game of video poker from earlier?
We know that people can combine our knowledge of probable outcomes with the payouts for those outcomes to determine the payback percentage for the game.
If the big jackpot on a casino game gets big enough, the game becomes a confident expectation proposition.
Most video poker games where the progressive jackpot gets that high are swamped with advantage player teams. A person advantage player can?t usually get yourself a spot.
Even though you do get a spot, it?s possible to miss the progressive jackpot?actually, it?s not just possible, it?s likely.
Theoretically, when you do hit the jackpot, you?ll make up for all the times you missed it and some. That?s the complete point behind a positive expectation game.
Here?s one example of a video poker pay table with a progressive jackpot that has a positive expectation:
It?s a 9/6 Jacks or Better game for 25 %. If the jackpot is over $1220, you?re facing a confident expectation game. You should take that action.
You can find multiple pages on the web explaining the break-even points for the various pay tables and various video poker games.
6. Dice Control in Craps
I?m skeptical of the advantage gambling technique, but I admit it?s theoretically possible. Maybe.
Here?s the idea behind dice control:
The house edge on the essential bet in craps, the pass line bet, is only 1.41%.
But when you combine that with the odds bet, the overall house edge on that bet drops dramatically. For example, when you place an odds bet of 3X how big is your pass line bet, the cumulative house edge on the 2 2 bets is 0.62%.
That?s suprisingly low.
And here?s what your goal is in this example. It?s to roll the point before rolling a 7.
All you should do is be able to throw the dice with less probability of getting a 7 than usual. You can screw up a number of the time. You just need to improve your odds slightly.
By doing so, you get an advantage over craps.
That?s not easy to do, though.
Casinos have specific rules and procedures for throwing the dice in craps. To begin with, you must throw them a particular distance. They must hit that back wall.
They?re likely to frown you spending a lot of time setting the dice a certain way in your hands, too.
But if this is something you?re interested in learning, here?s what you do:
First, buy a book titled Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution! How exactly to Win at Craps Utilizing a Controlled Dice Throw! by Frank Scoblete.
Read it.
If it makes sense and sounds like something you?d like to try to figure out how to do, start considering investing in a craps table. You may have to build one.
Once you?ve create casino-like conditions in your basement or garage, it is possible to move on to another step:
Practice.
You?ll have to practice and record your outcomes for a long time before you have any statistical surety about your capability to control the results of a roll of the dice.
I?m talking about hundreds, maybe even a large number of throws before you have any confidence in your results.
You probably need to have someone help you keep track of your results. When you have to stop to record your results every time you throw the dice, you?re never going to enter enough throws.
Once you?re confident in your statistics, it?s time and energy to hit the casinos.
I wish you luck with this method. I?m not convinced that it?s possible, and I?m not dedicated enough to the idea to try it.
If you want to get yourself a mathematical edge when gambling, you?re not by yourself. Actually, you?re way ahead of most people who are looking for blog posts of a more general nature ? ?how exactly to win at gambling? or ?how to beat the casino.? That?s as you understand that winning money at gambling is centered on math.
The first step in learning how to get an advantage in gambling is due to understanding why most gamblers don?t have an advantage ? just the opposite, actually. Generally, this means understanding the home edge in casino games, the rake in poker, and the vig in sports betting.
Once you grok the math behind those activities, you can start thinking about how to turn the math on its head and gambling with the edge. This isn?t an easy way to make money, by the way. But it?s more of a sure thing than a few of the bone-headed ?strategies? you?ll see for sale on the internet.
If nothing else, you won?t be wasting your time trying to get an advantage at gambling activities where getting an edge is impossible.
Each of the above advantage gambling techniques have been proven to work ? except maybe for dice control. I think the jury continues to be out on that one.
You can get other advantage gambling techniques, too, but the ones in this article should be a good start for anyone.
