How to cure toenail fungus
If you notice your nails look different or you can see the underlying white tissue, you may have a nail fungus infection. The condition can be painful and can also cause you to lose your hair, called alopecia. Your doctor might send a sample of your nails to a lab to check for fungus and other causes of your symptoms.
Your doctor might recommend a prescription medicine to clear your nail of the fungus. The drug can be taken by mouth or applied to your nail.
Oral medicines include terbinafine (Bactrim) and itraconazole (Sporanox). These drugs treat the nail fungus by helping a new nail grow out clear of it.
You might have to use this medication for 6 to 12 weeks. It can have side effects, including skin rash and headaches.
Another treatment is to soak your feet in apple cider vinegar, which has antifungal properties if it's organic. To make this foot soak, mix two parts water with one part vinegar and soak your feet for 20 minutes each day.
Home remedies aren't always effective but they don't have many side effects and might be helpful if your toenail fungus is mild. Some common home remedies include soaking your feet in a solution of 1/8 cup hydrogen peroxide and four cups of warm water, applying a topical fungus-fighting cream or ointment, or brushing your toenails with a fungus-fighting toothpaste or gel.
If your toenail fungus is more severe, you may need a prescription treatment that includes taking a medication by mouth or using a special cream. yellow nail treament may even suggest removing your infected nail so a healthy nail can grow in its place.
