Benzene, Butadiene, and Other Carcinogens on the Railroad
Many railroad workers are exposed to benzene, butadiene and other carcinogens while on the job. You may be entitled compensation when you've developed an illness that is grave, such as leukemia.
Leukemias can develop in the lymphatic tissues or bone marrow. CLL (chronic lymphocytic Leukemia) is one of the four major types of adult leukemia.
csx injury settlements is a chemical that can be breathed in or absorbed through the skin. It is a crude oil by-product utilized in the production of plastics, resins, nylons, and synthetic fibers. lung cancer lawsuit settlement is also used in lubricants dyes paints, detergents, pesticides, and other drugs. It is a well-known carcinogen that can cause leukemia, acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes and lymphomas.
Railroad workers are exposed to benzene through the use of mineral spirits, solvents, and degreasers. When working on lung cancer lawsuit settlement or freight cars they are exposed to exhaust and diesel fumes. Due to this exposure railroad workers are at a greater chance of developing chronic leukemia.
Numerous epidemiologic studies have shown that exposure to benzene may increase the risk of leukemia. bnsf injury settlements -analysis of 22 studies gave summaries of effects estimates for benzene exposure and the risk of AML and Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL).
The meta-analysis shows that exposure to benzene in the workplace increases the risk of developing these leukemias. The results for AML, CLL and ALL were less convincing. This could be due to the lower rate of reporting for these subgroups but also to an absence of dose-response with the increase in exposure. The meta-analysis did not find any evidence of bias in publications.
Asbestos
Asbestos is a fibrous mineral, has been used to make thousands of industrial products. Its resistance to heat, fire, and corrosion is what made it a top choice for railroads' locomotives and other equipment. Asbestos poses a threat to workers who handle it. When exposed to asbestos asbestos fibers, they can break down into tiny particles that are then airborne. They can then be breathed in and can become lodged in a person's lungs. They can trigger a variety of serious illnesses, including mesothelioma.
If asbestos fibers infiltrate a person's lungs they can cause irritation to the lung's lining. This irritation could lead to a buildup in collagen, which becomes harder over time and creates plaques called pleural. This condition can lead to chest discomfort and breathing problems.
Fibrosis is yet another form of lung damage that could be caused by asbestos exposure. This scar tissue interferes in the ability to breathe. This condition could be fatal if not treated.
If you are a railroad employee who was diagnosed with an asbestos-related condition then get in touch with a FELA lawyer immediately. A knowledgeable mesothelioma lawyer can assist you in filing an application for compensation. To be able to claim compensation you will need to prove that exposure to toxic substances on the job resulted in your illness. FELA attorneys often collaborate with industrial safety experts, also known as industrial hygienists in order to examine the work environment at the railroad's workplace and determine if the railroad followed the correct safety procedures.
Diesel Exhaust
Railroad workers are often exposed to carcinogenic materials and fumes during their work, including diesel exhaust. Excessive exposure to diesel exhaust has been linked to mesothelioma, lung cancer and other serious occupational ailments among railroad workers. Inhaling the exhaust of engines and particulates could lead to long-term health issues that are difficult to treat.
Locomotives operate on diesel fuel and the cab of a locomotive is a confined space with a limited amount of ventilation. Railroad workers are exposed to diesel exhaust through breathing it into the cab, as well as being able to drag it back over their clothing and on themselves after they leave the cab. Railroad workers working in yards and shops can also be exposed to diesel exhaust, since they are often in contact with locomotives and train equipment.
Diesel exhaust is known to contain carcinogenic and mutational compounds that can be absorbed into the bloodstream. These chemicals can cause damage to the respiratory system and blood, as well as the bone marrow. In a research study that analyzed many workers who were frequently exposed to diesel exhaust, scientists discovered that those who had the longest exposure time experienced the highest risk of lung cancer.
Lung cancer mortality was significantly higher in railroad workers exposed to diesel exhaust, even after taking into account smoking-related deaths and other factors. The Lyon Firm is investigating claims from railroad workers who have been ill from exposure to diesel exhaust and other industrial toxic substances.
