Mojang Studios, the Microsoft-owned company that runs Minecraft released a statement on NFTs. Mojang stated that NFTs would not be permitted in Minecraft.
According to the company, NFTs promote profiteering as well as exclusion.

Mojang Studios, the company behind the hugely popular video game Minecraft, has announced it will not be integrating NFTs into the game in a statement on Wednesday.
NFTs, also known as non-fungible tokens (or tokens that are not fungible) are digital assets that may be described as digital artworks.
Other major gaming studios have also embraced the recent NFT trend and the gaming industry is seen by many as a huge market to grow for the tokens.
Mojang made it clear it will not be joining the bandwagon.
In its statement, Mojang stated that NFTs "create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft. NFTs aren't inclusive of all our community and create a scenario of the haves and have-nots."

Mojang also seemed to be concerned that NFTs in Minecraft could be a source of fraudulent activities.
The company claimed that NFTs' speculative pricing and investment mindset encourages profiteering, and removes the game's main focus.
"We are also concerned that third-party NFTs may not be reliable and may cost players who purchase them."
The popularity of Minecraft gives Mojang's announcement credibility. According to data from NPD Group, Minecraft was the most popular game in the US during the first three months.
Mojang Studios is owned by Microsoft. Insider reached out to Microsoft to find out if Mojang's statement was representative of the company's general position regarding NFTs. Microsoft did not respond immediately.
