Danzig merchandise includes t-shirts and collectibles. The band's music is known as horror punk. This genre combines punk with various musical influences and themes from horror movies. The group was formed in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by vocalist, songwriter, and keyboardist Glenn Danzig. The band's lineup was always shifting, but Danzig was the sole steadfast person in the band throughout its history. The Misfits are recognized as progenitors of the horror punk subgenre and their music has been influential to many bands within the genre.
The band was hired as the drummer and bassist in 1982, but did not make an album until 1984. In the same year they came out with "Horror Business" and a cover that featured the skeleton of a character that was later adopted as their logo.
Danzig operated the Fiend Club from the basement of his mother's house, printing silkscreen T-shirts, making vinyl records, sending catalogs and booking shows for the band. danzigmerch started creating new songs and recording songs for a planned album. Three songs were chosen from the sessions in August 1980 and were released as 3 Hits From Hell by the band in 1981.
The Misfits cancelled their show in October of 1983 at Greystone Hall, Detroit after Brian Damage, real name Brian Keats, who replaced the drummer who was originally Mr. Jim got drunk and started playing erratically. Doyle took Brian Damage off the stage, as did Todd Swalla from the Necros took over for the rest of the performance.
