How to Create a Cheap Tin Man Costume For Halloween
If you're looking to dress in the role of the Tin Man for Halloween, you could do it in a cheap and easy-to-make costume. This costume is based off the dress Jack Haley wore in the classic film of 1939, The Wizard of Oz. The costume includes fitted silver pant, a long jacket in silver, and a funnel-shaped hat. The jacket is secured with Hook and Loop and a zipper on the back. It also comes with pockets on the chest and Tinman's famous heart design printed on it. You can add a plastic funnel hat and an axe to complete the look.


Tinman costumes can be made with any metallic spray paint. You will want to apply multiple coats of paint, letting each one dry between applications. The paint must be applied outdoors in an area with a good air circulation. You may also paint the costume by hand using an ointment or brush in case you aren't comfortable spraying it.


The torso of this tin man costume is made out of aluminum duct tubing. Cut a section just slightly shorter than the shoulder length of the person wearing it, and then angle the ends 45 degrees. This piece needs to be attached to both the bottom and top of the torso. Cut a tube roughly the same length as the arm of the subject. It is hot glued to the back of torso, over the tubing.


For the arms that will be part of this costume for a tinman, cut two small pieces of aluminum duct tubing. Cut the ends in an angle of 45 degrees and fold over. They must be glued on the upper part of the costume. To ensure that they are the same, you can apply the same metallic paint on the torso and arms.
