Turkey: Ministry to investigate Minecraft violence News from Elsewhere... ... media reports from all over the world, uncovered by BBC Monitoring

Turkey's government is looking into claims that the popular computer game Minecraft is violent, it's reported.
The game is classified as appropriate for children seven and over in much of Europe, and for those older than 10 in the United States. But Turkey's family and social policies minister, Aysenur Islam, has requested an investigation into claims that it promotes aggression according to the Haberturk website says. If it's considered too violent, then the government may seek an entire ban, according to the website. STOLARIJA The decision was inspired by a journalist who informed Mrs Islam that players get points for killing other characters, including women and asked what her ministry would be doing to address the issue. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
A journalist at one Turkish gaming magazine believes that the ministry's concerns are not valid. Kaan Gezer, a Leadergamer journalist, stated that she has never seen children take a sword and assault people because Minecraft. "Stories such as these make the Turkish video game industry to stall or even worsen." Minecraft is extremely popular among gamers of all different ages. In February 2014, it registered its 100 millionth user. Teachers at a few schools in the UK have also used it.
