Cairngorms recreated in video game Minecraft

The Cairngorms' landscape has been recreated in the video game Minecraft to help youngsters learn how to manage an entire national park.
The virtual world, where players can create anything with blocks encompasses all 1,700 sq miles (4,402 sq km) of the park, which comprises areas of Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire.
The settlements were destroyed, and Cairngorms Youth Activity Team members are requested to establish new communities.
It is designed to get them thinking about the way in which planning decisions are made.
However, it's fair to say that the team are not taking this seriously.
Minecraft creates remote islands
Campbell, a sixteen-year-old from Aviemore, has been building a hill fort at Cairn Gorm's top. It is among the highest mountains in the UK.
He explains: "It doesn't get the temperature across very well but it gets the landscape.
"We've seen the corries and been up the Cairngorms. It's easy to identify the Lairig Ghru.
"It's as realistic as it can be. The various types of trees will let you know where you are and if there are trees.
Ellie Moore, a fellow player, stated that "while we're trying build things and farm there's an endless stream of monsters or enemies that appear at night."

"So it's been hard to travel out into the world as you're constantly trying to survival but I'd say where have been thus far is pretty exact."
Dan Harris worked in his free time to recreate the park.
In the day, he's a planning manager for the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
He added: "They're basically dropped onto the map at the location in the area where Aviemore ought to be. They've been asked to establish a community or neighbourhood that will meet the objectives of the national park.
"They should consider ways to help protect and enhance the natural world , and how they can make sustainable use of resources."
