M-BAS: a modular bed absence system based on pressure sensing
The M-BAS was designed as a non-invasive, modular bed absence or bed exit device (patent pending) consisting of a thin sensor pad placed beneath the patients back underneath their bed coverings. When pressure is applied across all three panels, the sensor will generate a loud, high-pitched alarm to raise immediate attention that a patient has left their bed. The M-BAS was able to accurately detect bed absence episodes among geriatric inpatients and alert nurses accordingly. Nurses' workload was reduced significantly with the use of the M-BAS.
