Cody Johnson, despite his rodeo roots, has been a Nashville country star for years. He's had many hits and received a great deal of critical acclaim. Cody Johnson has the ability to strike the perfect balance between genuine authenticity and infectious appeal, giving his songs a real life. He is a talented writer and has a great voice. He loves to tell funny and poignant stories, and often with a strong place sense. The sardonic "One Glass of Whiskey" is a perfect example. It's also a great opener to this album.
Wall Clocks, his second release on a major record label, is a great one. It's more organic than his first releases since joining the major label, and he didn't try to force it into a mould that didn't suit him. The album is filled with a wide variety of songs, from big-name pop hits you'll recognize to his originals.
The band that he assembled is a great group of musicians. The team includes his brother Dave, who plays guitar and drums, Pat Manske on bass and Glenn Fukunaga on bass. They are all talented musicians that provide the right backing to these well-written songs.
CodyJohnsonMerch will please both fans and newcomers to his music. It will make you dance and even smile at times, especially if you identify with Bostick's characters. This is a great album that deserves to be among the contenders of album of the year. It's a great choice for celebrating the legacy of Willie Nelson, released just one day before his ninety fourth birthday.
