ABADON
Abadon berasal dari bahasa Ibrani (אֲבַדּוֹן) dan dalam bahasa Yunani adalah Apolion (Ἀπολλύων; apollyon) yang artinya ialah Malaikat Jurang Maut (Abyssos) seperti yang dicatat dalam Kitab Wahyu kepada Yohanes pasal 9 :
>> Dan raja yang memerintah mereka ialah malaikat jurang maut; namanya dalam bahasa Ibrani ialah Abadon dan dalam bahasa Yunani ialah Apolion. <<
Di dalam Kitab Wahyu malaikat ini ditugaskan bukan untuk membunuh manusia, melainkan hanya untuk menyiksa mereka dengan belalang-belalang yang berasal dari alam maut lima bulan lamanya, setelah Sangkakala yang kelima ditiup. Malaikat ini hanya akan muncul di hadapan manusia pada saat bencana kiamat sudah dipastikan kepada bumi .
Misi Salib
Abadon atau Apolion malaikat inilah yang ditundukkan oleh Mesias dalam misi kematian Yesus Kristus di kayu salib, perjalanan Yesus sebagai manusia biasa yang "menanggung dosa seluruh umat manusia" ke alam maut selama tiga hari untuk merebut kunci jurang maut (Injil). Dengan kemenangan
Yesus dari upah dosa yang adalah maut merupakan misi kunci Mesias, untuk menebus umat-umat pilihan Allah, pada saat kebangkitan orang-orang mati di hari Penghakiman Yesus.
