Senior living is a pressing concern for many as they age, with many seniors wanting to age at home but more moving to make it a reality. The desire to age at home is high, with 94 percent of seniors wanting to stay in their current homes. However, a new survey by the Home Instead Senior Care network reveals that many seniors are redefining what it means to age in place, with one in four planning to move to a new home to accommodate their changing needs.

When it comes to aging in a home, practical features such as single-floor living and easy or low-cost maintenance are highly desired. This survey highlights the need for older adults to consider the effects of aging that could make certain areas of the home hazardous, such as agility and mobility, balance, eyesight, and memory.

In order to help seniors make an informed decision on where to age, Home Instead is introducing Home Your Own Way, a new collection of free resources for seniors and their loved ones to navigate their options and determine what "home" might look like for them. Whether seniors choose to age in their current home, downsizing, moving to a senior living community, or living with relatives, the goal of Home Your Own Way is to provide seniors and families with the resources they need to make a decision that is right for them.

It is clear that the desire to age at home is strong, but many factors must be considered when assessing what is best for them, such as health conditions, mobility, and safety. As we look to the future, it is important that we continue to support and provide resources to our seniors as they navigate the aging process and make decisions about their living situations.
