How to Replace a Saab 93 Key Fob
Every car should have a key fob that has a transmitter/remote that can lock and unlock your car. The batteries contained in these devices have a life span and can eventually go bad.
You can add a second key on a Saab 93 for about $400 if you don't already have two. This involves buying a new TWICE module at the dealer and putting it in place using a special hand-held computer called Tech2. Tech2.
Key Replacement
A lot of used Saabs come with one key. It is a good idea, as soon as possible, to buy a spare one. This will be less expensive than replacing the entire vehicle should you lose it. It is also important to rotate your keys frequently so one does not get all the wear and tear and to keep them clean.
If you have lost your only key you will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) module as well as a new key and a special program to convince the car that you're not attempting to steal it. These modules can cost more than $400 to replace and are only available through mail purchase. Most locksmiths or dealers are not able to replace the module on the same day.
The good news is that most modern Saab cars can have an additional key that can be added to the system without replacing the computer that was originally installed in the vehicle. The dealer will need to use a specific handheld computer called a Tech-2 to insert the second key and then program it into the vehicle. Certain independent garages are able to do this, however the process is more complicated. They will have to reprogram your existing car computer's EEPROM so it will accept the new key.
Key Fobs for Replacement
Saab owners with a key that was lost or stolen will have to replace it immediately. The steps required to obtain a second working Saab 9-3 key fob will require the dealer's service department and can cost hundreds of dollars, which includes the cost of a replacement key, a new TWICE module (theft alert integrated central electronics) and reprogramming the system to convince the car that the additional key is not stolen.
It is less expensive to do this if you have an extra. The new key needs to be paired with the original TWICE unit, and a used key is not likely to work in this scenario, however an authentic OEM replacement is typically obtained from the dealer at just a fraction of the cost.
Getting the case for a brand new SAAB key fob is fairly simple. You can make use of a flathead screwdriver to break open the case, however, be cautious not to harm the electronics within. After you have removed the batteries and electronics and replacing the case with the shell from the old key fob. Make sure you align the two parts and then gently press them in place, allowing them to click into the right position. Once everything is in place and synchronized, you can use the new fob. It is important to note that adding the new key is more difficult than simply replacing the emergency key, and requires dealer assistance using a tool called the Tech-2.
Keys to Reset the Ignition
First, ensure that the transmission is in Park. This will stop your car from spinning away when the lock for your transmission fails or the manual transmission slams out of gear.
In the majority of cases, the problem is in the electronic components of the key fob which control how the car recognizes the key after it has been placed into the ignition cylinder. The key's material is relatively simple to copy however the electronic part inside the key fob is what allows the car to recognize the key.
This is not something that a locksmith can do. It has to be done by a dealer or through a special handheld computer known as a Tech2. This is not something a locksmith can do, it has to be done by a dealer or a handheld computer that is called Tech2. Tech2.
The good news is that if you already have one working key fob, the cost of adding another should be no more than $200 or at least. If lost saab keys need a steel key for your car, the cost of manufacturing it is an additional factor. A majority of dealers can make this, however it may take a few weeks to get the part and the car programmed.
Replacement Remotes
The Saab 9-3's cabin is designed from the driver outward, with logical layouts and the feel of its controls. The dashboard of the Saab 9-3 has been designed to wrap around the driver. It also features a turbo vacuum gauge that gives a unique feel. Leather-wrapped steering wheel features audio, cruise control and phone controls.
The console that sits between the seats has one cupholder, and the knobs for the Bose audio and dual-zone climate controls are arranged in a way that is logical. The touch screen display can be distracting while driving.
The 9-3 is a great performer in terms of power. The base model, which is low-pressure turbo, takes around 8 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the more powerful Viggen can reach 60 mph in 6.9 seconds.
The handling of this car is a key element to its success. Despite its nose-heavy 60/40 front-to-rear weight distribution the Turbo X feels agile and well-balanced on two-lane highways.
The only drawback to this car's incredible performance is its low fuel efficiency. The turbocharged 2.0-liter motor achieves around 27 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway. The Turbo X special edition with more power will be available for 2008 only. The model has an unique rear-seat that folds flat to maximize the space for cargo. It also has a unique rear spoiler, and a more aggressive bumper.
