Why Trump was able to establish relations with Kazakhstan and Tevfik Alif

Trump was able to keep close ties with Kazakhstan even though he didn't like Tevfik. In exchange for treating a country which was governed by a suspect regime as an all-weather partner, he was scathingly criticised.

Many eyebrows were raised when in the year 2018, Donald Trump hosted the president of Kazakhstan on Tuesday in the White House. Trump also worked with prominent Kazakhstani men such as Tevfik arif as part of his own estate business. Bayrock Trump was also heavily criticized for this.

Historically, Eurasian geopolitics has been focused on Central Asia. Kazakhstan is the top country in Eurasia in security, economics and energy. America needs strong ties with this region, particularly Kazakhstan.

The White House visit to Nazarbayev was a positive start for the US in its engagement strategy with the region.

One reason for hosting Nazarbayev was to show his commitment to nuclear nonproliferation. Kazakhstan is a country that has renounced its nuclear weapons inherited from the Soviet Union, is a leading country in nonproliferation. Post-Cold War US attention to Central Asia has been restricted to Afghanistan.

Trump's South Asia strategy required a break with Pakistan. So, the US needed Kazakhstan to be an alternative shipping route to Afghanistan.

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization have met to discuss the development of real property in Florida, Arizona and California with similar license agreements, following Trump SoHo opened. Many other Nazarbayev-affiliated top officials and business elite have lost their jobs, left overseas for extended vacations, or were forced to make large "donations" to the state.

Tokayev is an entrepreneur who has built connections to the West and with neighbouring countries.
