As the summer heat reaches a peak, nothing beats a cold bowl of bingsu (k-spr-ee)—Korean shaved ice dessert topped with fresh fruit, sweet syrup, or other goodies. The popular treat is a staple of Korean summers and can be found at restaurants all over the country, but Gangnam is home to some of the city’s best.

Ahead are some of the most insta-worthy spots for a bite of this refreshing treat.

This quaint cafe near Euljiro 3-ga station serves some of the most exotic bingsu in town. One of their most popular flavors is the Chodang Corn Bingsu, which combines a soft and heavy milky bingsu with yellowish corn puree that has a strong yet sweet taste similar to corn soup. You can try this unique flavor at a price range of 6,500 to 8,000 won—which is a great deal!

The menu also includes injeolmi chaltteok ice and cookies and cream seolgi cake. Injeolmi chaltteok is a thin and flat glutinous rice cake sprinkled with bean flour that’s served ice cold, while the cookies and cream seolgi cake is a steamed non-glutinous rice cake topped with ice cream and sweet pumpkin latte. The cafe is also known for their other creative creations using traditional ingredients like ginger, chestnut, black soybean, mung bean, Goryeo ginseng, and mugwort.

For those who’d rather enjoy their bingsu on the go, there are many convenient takeaway options in the area. The famous Gelati Gelati is located nearby in the Gangnam District and is one of the city’s longest-lasting gelato shops, originally starting in 2012 with a single location in western Seoul’s Mapo District. Today, the chain has 10 locations throughout the city. They serve a range of classic flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, as well as some unique ones that are worth trying out like mango, hibiscus, and pistachio.
