Life Movie Review not pretty much as good
Life Movie, the new Eddie Murphy-Martin Lawrence buddy comedy, is a surprisingly thoughtful film. It tackles severe subjects just like the prison system and the consequences of racism, whereas still being a movie that has you laughing out loud. The movie also manages to search out moments of real heart and emotion within the midst of all of the silliness. It's a testament to both actors that they will maintain the energy up whereas addressing such troublesome subjects.

A group of scientists on the International Space Station are on the slicing fringe of one of humanity's biggest discoveries - the first evidence of extraterrestrial life. Unfortunately for them, that life form soon proves much more intelligent than any of them might have imagined.

The premise of Life is an previous one, however director Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money) manages to make it work. He provides the film a bit of style and a few truly horrifying physique gore. And, most importantly, he makes sure that the strain by no means dies down. Despite the truth that Life suffers from an abundance of sci fi and horror tropes it's a tense, nail-biting thriller with some first rate performing.

While inferior to either Alien or Gravity, Life is a solidly entertaining film. This is mostly because of a fantastic cast and a terrific rating from Jon Ekstrand. And, despite the very fact that the film has a few dialogue heavy scenes that don't fairly work and it does really feel a bit like Alien lite, the action is taught and the tempo doesn't slow down.

As for the titular alien, it is a memorably disturbing monster. From its microscopic beginnings to the point where it's literally crushing bones, shoving things down folks's throats and digesting them in seconds, Calvin is a terrifying creature that is in a position to frighten audiences with a easy look. And the reality that the creature is so memorable could help to clarify why Life was seen by a predominantly black audience once I went to see it.

If you are a fan of outer-space movies and have not already seen Passengers, then I would positively recommend trying out Life. It may not break any new ground, but an excellent cast, an incredible rating and some really horrifying body gore make it nicely worth your time. If nothing else, it will reaffirm your choice to not be an astronaut. And, who knows? Maybe sometime we'll get a chance to see a face-hugger vs. a mollusk battle royale in a future installment of this franchise. I can't wait. See it in theaters on April 22.
