Jim Kaster, an EEOC attorney who spoke to CNBC that Union Pacific is under investigation for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Eric Doi, the plaintiff in this case, was a member of a zone gang, which traveled on a regular basis between different states to do work for railroads. He suffered injuries when was involved with a different Union Pacific truck driver in an accident that involved a rollover.

Doi claimed that Union Pacific was negligent in various ways, including failing properly to supervise and educate its employees. Doi also claimed that Union Pacific did not comply with industry standards and to provide proper safety procedures. The jury awarded him damages of $557 million.

Railroad Cancer Lawsuit Settlements of the $557 million prize will also be used to fund his future medical treatment. Another case involved a man who suffered serious injuries to his knee when it was injured in an accident at work. Although he was able to get a portion wages back, the serious injury to his body and career was severe. He also needed surgery to fix his knee.
