Cruella De Vil Costume Review
Cruella De Vil is one of the most callous and fashionable Disney villains. The 1961 animated film 101 Dalmatians immortalized her covetous love of fur. Cruella looks as bad as she ever has, but now with an added touch of punk rock flair from the 1970s. Jenny Beavan, costume designer for Mad Max: Fury Road and A Room With a View, brought a bold, edgy feel to Cruella's character through her design choices, which harkened back to the seedy ’70s London scene and the nascent rock scene. cruelladevillecostume drew from Vivienne, Alexander McQueen David Bowie and Marie Antoinette in order to make Cruella as savage as she is glamorous.

As for the color palette, it's mainly black, white, and red as in her younger days but with hints of unnatural green to represent greed and envy. Her signature trench coat has a blood red lining to pay homage to the fur coats she made from animals she killed and skinned. She wears it over a silky, floor-length dress with bony shoulders accentuated by long evening gloves and a tiered headdress of red ostrich feathers that look like fire. The accessories she wears are all unnaturally colored, too. From the shoes that look like burning flesh to the jewelry with an opalescent shine that sparkles in a fiery hue.

Cruella's best fashion moment was when she crashed Baroness' Black and White Ball, wearing a floor length white gown with an layered crimson frock underneath. The outfit reflects the rebellious, sexy side of Cruella with hints of Mary Antoinette. However, it also hints her darker personality as she reveals a pair a fiery flames sculpted on her face.

She also stands out in her appearance at the Baroness fashion show, wearing a faux leather motorcycle jacket which highlights her sculpted shoulders as well as her punk-inspired make-up. It's an appearance that is just as daring and as dangerous as her behaviour.
