The settlement requires MJFT to pay an amount of civil penalties, train relevant employees about the requirements of 8 U.S.C. Section 1324b, and undergo departmental monitoring and reporting for three years, as well as change its policy on excluding work-authorized applicants.

Doi also claimed that the railroad did not ensure proper safety practices and that it failed to follow recognized industry standards. The jury awarded him $557 million in damages.
A portion of the award of $557 million will also go towards his future medical expenses.
