Terry Silver and John Kreese returned from Vietnam wanting to teach respect and discipline by practicing karate. Silver's family wanted him to work in the business. They threatened to remove him from the inheritance. Kreese's heart was broken. He wanted to start a dojo and didn't think he could open one without Silver. Silver agreed and together the two founded Cobra Kai.

Silver and Kreese gained a bad reputation for their strictness and brutality, and they began to expel any students that they deemed unworthy. Nevertheless, they are determined that Cobra Kai will be rebuilt and will continue to fight until their names have been cleared. Cobra Kai's slogan remains "STRIKE first. STRIKE HARDT. ". ".
