A try square is a woodworking or a metal working tool used for marking and measuring a piece of wood. The square refers to the tool's primary use of measuring the accuracy of a right angle (90 degrees); to try a surface is to check its straightness or correspondence to an adjoining surface

A coping saw is a type of hand saw used to cut intricate external shapes and interior cutouts in woodworking or carpentry. It is occasionally used to create fretwork though it is not able to match a fretsaw in intricacy of cut, particularly in thin materials. Coping saw blades are always thicker and much coarser cutting than typical fretsaw blades and many others of its family members.

A file is a metalworking, woodworking and plastic working tool used to cut fine amounts of material from a work piece. Files have forward-facing cutting teeth, and cut most effectively when pushed over the work piece (to smooth out the surface).

A pillar drill is a fixed style of drilling machine that can be mounted on a stand or bolted to the floor or workbench. Unlike a hand-held drill machine; it is far more accurate. It can also be a faster method of making a hole in the piece of work

Sandpaper is a generic name used for a type of coated abrasive that consists of sheets of paper or cloth with abrasive material glued to one face. Despite the use of the name sand isn't used in the manufacture of these products as they have been replaced by other abrasives.

Linish is an engineering term that refers to the process of using grinding or belt sanding techniques to improve the flatness of a surface. The flatness may be two-dimensional, i.e. with the view of achieving a flat plate, or one-dimensional, e.g. with the view of achieving a perfectly cylindrical shape. The machine that does this may be called a linisher or a linish grinder. The technique may also be used, with finer grades of grindstone or sanding belt, to polish a surface.
