Playing Mojang's Minecraft with your friends can be a challenge and expensive depending on the way you set it up. The creators of Minecraft created Minecraft Realms to simplify the setup and provide an easy way to play with up to 10 of your friends.





What Is a Minecraft Realm?


Mojang's solution to hosting a Minecraft server is Minecraft Realms. Playing Minecraft with friends over the internet has never been simpler. For a fee of $7.99 per month or a one-time payment of 30-, 90-, or 180-day plans, Mojang sets up and hosts an online server that is private and always available for you and your friends. Only you and your friends are able to enjoy the games on your computer.



Each server comes with the features you'd expect to find in a typical Minecraft experience, plus more. All of the game modes in Minecraft (Survival Creative, Adventure, Survival, Spectator, and Spectator), are available. Mojang also preloaded mini games onto the Minecraft Realms set.



The Minecraft Hardcore Mode isn't currently available in Realms.





The Pros of Minecraft Realm Play


The main benefit of using Minecraft Realms rather than a third-party server is its ease of use. When you optimize a server from a third party it is common to visit a website to change settings in the hope of finding the ideal configuration.



Everything is optimized within Minecraft Realms. If you want to invite someone to your server, or switch to a mini-game that Mojang has provided, upload your own world or customize anything else, you have it all done in the client.



Realms does not support mods that are a major drawback. Modifications to the game are a huge element of the Minecraft experience, this can cause issues for gamers who want to play something similar to the Aether Mod, for instance playing with their friends.

Minecraft Realms Security


If you're afraid to start a server because you think guests who aren't invited to join could destroy your world, do not worry. If you're using a Minecraft Realm for your server, only players who are invited by you may join. You can easily add or remove players from a safe list when you are the host.



To ensure server security Worlds are automatically backed up.



You can invite up 200 players to your server. However, only 10 can play at a time.





Minecraft Realms Platform Compatibility


Mojang offers two versions of Minecraft Realms:



Minecraft Realms version available for consoles, mobile devices and Windows 10 platforms


Minecraft: Java Edition available for PC, Mac, or Linux platforms



The two versions are not compatible, so Minecraft: Java Edition players using a Mac or pre Windows 10 computer can't play alongside players on mobile devices.



Overall, Minecraft Realms are a worthy and official solution to managing and creating servers for Minecraft for those who want an easy gaming experience. Hosting your own server is a more convenient alternative to hosting servers hosted by third-party hosts.



However, Minecraft Realms are not for everybody. If you're interested in the world of modding, stick with a host that allows these modifications.
