While SAWAYAMA focused on the generational trauma and depression that Sawayama suffered as a bisexual of the first generation who lived with her mother Hold the Girl shifts into self-healing. Hold the Girl, the sequel to SAWAYAMA, focuses on self-healing.
While shifting her style to be more in tune with the genres she's drawn inspiration from (Eurodisco, the early 2000s R&B), Hold the Girl isn't a dance music as a form of reaction to the spread of the pandemic. It's a story of resilience, and one that shows Sawayama using her voice as an instrument to express her strength, and to heal.
In the 3 years since Sawayama released her debut album, she has refined her craft to make an intimate but large-scale concert experience. It's easy to see why her album has already made huge waves in her home country.
With the release of her second album just around the corner, it's obvious that Rina Sawayama is set to make her mark on the world. rinasawayamamerch attended a movie screening of John Wick Chapter 4 in the red color of her minidress and dramatic shoulder pads, which was paired with the same paisley pattern on her shoes and coat. The outfit was a close match to the dress worn by Bella Hadid during Givenchy's fall 2023 runway show. it provided a streamlined way for the star to showcase her vivacious energy, while retaining a refined yet off-duty aesthetic.
