It was in 2011, when I started playing this game that is fascinating, Minecraft. It didn't take long before I decided to do a build that resembled a gigantic Apple II Plus (see the link at the bottom of this article).
As time passed, the game grew and improved and more diverse blocks were added. However, for a long time, I couldn't play anything on my Apple II. In 2014, I decided to tackle the project with a larger-scale Apple IIe. guimods I built the complete computer, an Apple Modem 1200, and the telephone, all constructed in Survival mode; for those who have not played the game, that's the place you have to obtain the blocks that you build manually, by mining them and making them. I set the project aside for three years, and then, in the last quarter of the year, I re-started it but decided to finish it by using Creative mode which allows you to give yourself all the blocks you need and it speeds up the process.
The result is the video above which features not only the computer, modem, and phone as well as an ImageWriter I printer (producing a Print Shop-style banner) and a joystick a DuoDisk drive and a Monitor II, with blocky images that are low-res. To complete the build, I built my old favorite stereo system from my college days in the 1970s.
Why did I do it? I'm not sure, but I know that it was satisfying to finish the project I had started long ago, and make it better than the previous one I worked on back in the early days of Minecraft. Although I don't program on the Apple II anymore, this game gave me the chance to express my creative side in an entirely new way.
