Additional: RuneScape Versions and Spin-Offs

RuneScape boasts more than 250 million players, many spin-off games and an ardent player base. It is also the most popular MMORPG on the planet and certainly one of the most played online games. Learn how to play RuneScape using your mobile or desktop device.

This article refers to the current version of RuneScape, also known by RuneScape 3.

How do I play RuneScape

RuneScape is a point-and-click-based game set in a fantasy world called Gielinor where players can interact with each other. The actions of players are entirely their own choice, as everything is completely optional. Every player is able to decide their own destiny and choose to train, battle monsters or participate in mini-games, have fun with friends or do whatever it is they like.

RuneScape Combat Modes

RuneScape offers two combat mechanisms: Regular or Legacy (commonly known as EoC or Evolution of Combat).

Regular Mode (EoC).

The Regular (EoC) fighting style offers players a variety of options to use based on the different weapons or armors, items, or items they can use. Other elements that influence EoC include the player's fighting style (Melee or Range, or Magic), the level they have achieved in a specific ability, the number of quests the player has completed, and more. EoC mode has been compared with other games like Blizzard's MMORPG World of Warcraft.

The Adrenaline bar that appears in EoC mode will reappear as players utilize their abilities. Certain abilities are only available when the Adrenaline bar is at an appropriate level. To use the same ability or other similar abilities the player must to replenish their Adrenaline tank and then wait for an appropriate cooling down.

Legacy Mode

Legacy mode is the primary combat system that the game was originally built around. There are no abilities, adrenaline or any of the combat settings in EoC. Your character is automatically attacked however you can utilize special attacks and items.

These abilities are tied to a specific item and can be used in both modes of combat. One example is the Saradomin Godsword and its Healing Blade ability. The ability can be used with the sword to cause significantly more damage and heal the health and prayer points.

Learning Your Skills

Players develop their skills in RuneScape through training. Different skills require different kinds of training, but all have the same basic structure perform something, gain experience, gain levels, improve abilities.

Woodcutting is an excellent option. You'll gain experience as you cut down trees. As you gain experience, you will be capable of cutting down larger trees. Larger trees grant more experience, and speed up leveling, which will offer new trees to chop down. The cycle will continue until you've reached level 99 in a skill (or 120 in the case of Dungeoneering).

Skills Types and Categories

Five types of skills are available to RuneScape players. Each skill type is based on the same principles of training for their respective kind.

Combat Skills Categories include Attack Defense and Strength, Prayer, Constitution, Strength and Magic, Ranged summoning, and constitution.

Artisan Skills: Categories include Cooking, Crafting, Construction, Runecrafting, Fletching, Herblore, Smithing, and Firemaking. Artisan skills make use of resources from other skills to train. One example is Firemaking, in which you would use the logs taken from Woodcutting to gain experience as you burn them.

Gathering Skills The categories include Divination, Mining Woodcutting, Hunter, Farming, and Fishing. These skills can all be learned relatively the same. The player travels to the area in which they work to obtain resources. When a resource item is acquired, they gain experience and gain the item will be available for purchase.

Support Skills: Categories include Thieving Slayer, Dungeoneering, Dungeoneering and Agility. Thieving allows for the gaining of money. Agility lets players take shortcuts and run further distances. Slayer offers more options to fight monsters. Dungeoneering helps players to increase their skills and unlock weapons.

Elite Skills There is only one Elite Skill in RuneScape: Invention. To learn Invention, you must attain at least level 80 in Smithing Crafting or Divination. This skill gives players the ability to disassemble objects and gain materials to create new items.

Questing in RuneScape

While the majority of quests in games are based on one goal, others offer an engaging storyline where the character being controlled is the primary character or the main protagonist of the quest. The quests typically end with an enormous boost in experience and an incentive.

Socializing

Discord and other VoIP services host a variety of RuneScape groups. YouTube's RuneScape communities have been thriving for a long time. DeviantART and Tumblr's RuneScape art communities have been around for as long as the game itself.

Other Spin-Offs and Versions of RuneScape

Jagex created Old School RuneScape to allow players to enjoy RuneScape's glory days without the need to access a private server. Old School RuneScape lets players play a 2007 version of RuneScape by activating the time machine. Jagex has added new content to the game that lets players determine what they can and cannot do in and out of the game.

RuneScape Classic is the most infrequently played version of RuneScape. This version of the game is RuneScape in one of its earliest stages. The game uses 2D graphics and is hard to recognize. This version of the game is loved by some, but it is not accessible to all.

Over the decades, RuneScape has had many spin-offs. These include Armies of Gielinor and Chronicle: RuneScape legends. CALISTOMEBEL RuneScape Idle Adventures is another.
