Cactus Jack has had one of the most violent and memorable runs in wrestling history. The heel of the mid-to-late 1990s was known for brutal matches with wrestling's top wrestlers. Along with a few gruesome matchups he created some extremely creative and funny gimmicks which gave his character an immediate legacy.
Foley joined World Championship Wrestling in 2003 after a brief stay with Extreme Championship Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling by Jim Cornette and Extreme Championship Wrestling. In his first match with the company, Foley took on a talented young man named Samoa Joe. Foley chose to use the Mankind persona during the majority of the fight, but reverted to Cactus Jack for the final moments and delivered a Piledriver into a table. He managed to do this despite having a foreign object in his arm (a 2x4 covered in barbed-wire and thumbtacks). Both men were covered with blood and tacks after the match. They also suffered from second-degree injuries despite wearing protective padding.
Foley later feuded against the heel tag team Edge & John Cena. He used the Cactus Jack persona in order to promote this feud. In a short vignette, he and Dude Love debated who would wrestle for the match. Mankind made a case for himself by arguing that a storyline involving him would be more successful. Cactus Jack also agreed, and went back to his old persona.
The Steiner brothers were the opponents in one of the most brutal match he has ever played. cactusjackmerch had teamed up to win the WCCW Tag Team title in 1994. Cactus Jack dropped a jobber with his trademark ring-apron flying arm drop during the match. After landing in ring, Cactus Jack hit the Steiner brothers hard with some the most brutal hits of his professional career. This match is considered to be one of the bloodiest and most brutal matches in professional wrestling history.
Foley spent a considerable amount of time with Ring of Honor after his stint in the WWF. He wrestled both as Cactus Jack and Mankind. Foley was able to switch between both characters at any time during a match. Foley lost his final match as Cactus Jack to an Edge covered in blood and thumbtacks. Foley said that his next fight would be as Mankind. However, he returned to referee Edge's championship match against John Cena at WrestleMania.
