Minecraft's silent landscaper Steve has left his world of blocks and stepping into Telltale's world of stories: Minecraft is getting a "narrative-driven" game by the team behind The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones games. Similar to Telltale's other games, Minecraft: Story Mode will be episodic and accessible on a variety of platforms when it launches "some time in 2015." Despite the acquisition, it seems that Microsoft's promise to keep Minecraft multiplatform continues to hold.
Telltale describes the game as a collaboration with Mojang and says that it won't exist as an add-on to Minecraft. Instead it will be a stand-alone series "driven by the player's preferences." Both Mojang and Telltale point out that they're working with the community to craft the story, and Mojang specifically states "We're not planning on creating an 'official' story for Steve [the main character of Minecraftor explaining the world of Minecraft in detail."
