Archie's long-running US comic book expands on the concept, showing that Mobius, which is now Mobius, was originally Earth. Xorda Aliens used a Gene Bomb in order to wipe out nearly all of humanity. Sonic has many relationships with members of the group. Vector, the Crocodile's nickname, is "Vet".

Emerl a mutated, animal-like echidna is also a cartoon character based upon Sonic. Emerl leads the animal kingdom as well as being an important Freedom Fighter. Sonic the Hedgehog was often a Saturday cartoon that featured the two together in romantic scenarios, with Sally playing a supportive and loving girlfriend to Sonic, and Emerl acting as a father figure.

Sonic has appeared in many television series, including classic cartoons. In Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi for example, the character pretends she's a Sonic from a video game. She runs at speeds that break the sound barrier, jumps atop a crab while running over a checkered circuit, and even runs in a forest. Sega sponsored Japanese Football Club JEF United Ichihara Chiba for the period 1993-1997, using Sonic to represent the team. Sonic's popularity grew as a result of this promotion. Over time, other sports clubs began to adopt him as a mascot.
