- Obviously someone had to have created all these Roman masterpieces, however, we don't know much about who made them, because of a lack of documentary evidence.
- As Greeks did, Romans worked with stone, precious metals, glass, and terracotta. Even so, they still favored bronze and marble for sculpture materials.
- Roman art was made for Roman homes as well as for the public sphere. Since Roman homes were always frequently visited, the decoration was of the utmost importance. Included in the decoration were wall paintings, mosaics (this was almost always a feature in Roman homes as flooring since it was so attractive), and sculptural displays. This allowed the owner display his wealth, taste, and education to his guests.
