Sony's WH1000XM5 are a fantastic pair of headphones for those who want to use the best wireless over ear headset. They're lightweight and come with a soft carrying case and fold flat for easy storage in your bag. The controls on their touch screen are easy to use and intuitive, and their battery can last for 30 hours with ANC switched off. The headphones come with an auto stop feature that turns them off when you take them from your head. This helps to conserve battery.

The WH-1000XM5 is compatible with Sony's Headphones Connect app which offers an extensive array of features that can be used to personalize your audio experience. The app is able to monitor your location and alter ambient sound features based on the environment you are in. The microphone is integrated for hands-free calls. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is able to play music using Bluetooth or via a wired connection using the cable included. They support aptX codecs, aptX HD codecs and aptX adaptive codecs to play high-quality audio through Bluetooth.

Like the XM4, the WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable with well-padded headbands and ear cups. They are comfortable to wear and can be worn for extended periods of time. They're also great for longer flights and commutes. They're noise-cancelling headphones that can reduce background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones feature an excellent amount of bass, especially for closed-back models. They also offer a great soundstage and a clear separation between instruments and vocals.

The low latency is a big plus. The lag is so tiny that it's almost imperceptible and they can be used to play casual games. They're not the ideal choice for competitive video games though and are best for those who are using them for entertainment and to make calls that are hands-free.

Sony is committed to including smart features into its products and the WH-1000XM5 are not a different. The active noise cancellation feature was one of the best that I've used and they have an array of smart features to improve your listening experience. They also include Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to near high-res quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology which streams music with higher quality over Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the introduction of the first generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have frequently included on top wireless headset lists and putting them in the same bracket as the likes Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort. Its newest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the original headphones to a higher level, with improved ANC performance as well as a fresh design.


In the earcups, the 40mm bio cellulose drivers are designed to be angled so that they point straight towards your eardrums in order to provide an audio experience that's more intimate than many other closed-back headphones can manage. The PX7 S2 is a perfect example of this bold claim. The vocals are clear and the bass is deep when needed.

For most listeners the most significant upgrade is the improved noise cancellation and audio performance. In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated cabin noise with astonishing efficiency and performed exceptionally when we played Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo voice, the wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

As well as in addition to ANC, in addition to improved ANC, PX7 S2s come with a variety of other features that make them very comparable with other top-rated noise cancelling headphones. They're wireless and have Bluetooth multipoint support, so you can connect two devices at once, and they have a built-in microphone that allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. Of course they're not 100% perfect. The clamp force of our test models were slightly higher than we'd like and there weren't as many app features as other options. However, these aren't major complaints. The PX7 S2s is an excellent wireless headset that beats out other models in its class. It's hard to imagine any other competitor that can beat them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal Bathys is the ideal option for audiophiles who appreciate high-quality sound and are searching for a wireless noise-canceling headphone. The Focal Bathys are the very first ANC headphones made by an French audio company that utilizes Bluetooth. They deliver incredible sound both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device for true hi-fi listening with a maximum of 24 bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are gorgeous, with their glossy black finish and swooping curves reminiscent of Focal's premium open-back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. The Bathys are built with premium materials like magnesium and aluminum, which make them feel durable and comfortable. They are also worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide crisp, vibrant sound signature. They easily surpass consumer ANC devices of similar price like the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode lets them be pushed further which makes them a fantastic choice for true hifi enthusiasts.

With the Focal & Naim app, users can adjust the playback controls of their headphones, virtual assistant, and Bluetooth pairing preferences. They can choose between silent or soft intensities for ANC and adjust the brightness of the LEDs on the earcups, and alter the settings for EQ. The app is bare-bones, but it offers enough functionality to be worth the download.

The only issue is that the active noise cancellation does not live up to the competition. The headphone doesn't eliminate all ambient noise as well as the highly rated XM5 and AirPods Max. Its treble accuracy is also a bit off and has a muddy high to mid range that blocks the instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. They're not suitable for travel due to their ear cups don't fold, and they weigh more than other models. The Bathys are best utilized at home for long listening sessions, or as an audio reference headset for sound engineering. The Bathys are comfortable to wear over long periods of time, despite their size and weight.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are excellent wireless over-ear headphones for the money. They come with a reliable noise-cancelling technology that does an excellent job of blocking out ambient noise, making them perfect for those who commute or travel. They also have a nice high-end look with their robust construction and attractive matte finish.

They follow a similar design to Sony's newer 1000X and XB910N headphones. They sport a slim, plastic headband with the usual hinges on the earcups. They're light and comfortable to wear, although they feel a little too compressed for my taste. They come with a USB-C charge port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable in the box. They support multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means that you can connect to two devices at the same time If you want to.

In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid noise cancelling technology did great job of reducing background noise, with just two noticeable blips when walking through Waterloo station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers didn't zap all sounds around them, but they did struggle with low-frequency sounds such as the engine rumbling sound of buses and trains.

Streaming music through the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth, and it showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tested a variety of genres and found they were able to handle the intricate interplay among instruments very well. It did a fantastic job of reducing the bass in rock tracks, and keeping the mix focused.

I love the possibility of adjusting the Sony Headphones Connect app to modify the CH720N's ANC as well as multipoint connectivity settings to your liking and add a range of audio presets. You can also use the app to activate DSEE, which upsacles compressed content and improves the audio quality.

beats studio wireless headphones -CH720N is a good value for PS130. It lacks some of Sony's best features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Quick Attention) however it comes with many excellent features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support I believe it would have been a welcome inclusion.
