Sneakers fall from the sky
Stanley is under a family curse. For as long as he can remember he has been in the wrong place at the wrong time. One day, as Stanley walks under an overpass, shoes happen to fall from the sky.


Jan 31 1990
Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake
Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake
Stanley is convicted for a crime he did not commit. Stanley is given a choice "Jail or Camp Green Lake". Stanley had never gone to camp before so he chooses going to Camp Green Lake...


Feb 2 1990
Stanley gets acquainted at Camp Green Lake
Stanley meets Mr. Sir. Mr. Sir assures Stanley that "this isn't the Girls Scouts". Stanley must dig a hole 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide every day. He only has 2 jumpsuits. Stanley meets all of this camp-mates. It is clear that Stanley is not as rough or tough as the other boys.

Stanley realizes why they dig the holes
Stanley is told that if he finds something, that he must turn it in. If it is something of value he will get the day off. X-ray tells him to let him know if he finds anything first. Stanley agrees.


Mar 14 1990
Stanley finds golden tube
Stanley finds golden tube with the initials KB on them. He later gives them to X-Ray, who gets the day off. However, the Warden makes the boys dig around where X-Ray supposedly found the tube. This is not the area that Stanley actually found it.

Stanley begins to teach Zero how to read
Stanley begins to teach Zero how to read. They become good friends.

The Sunflower Seeds Incident
The boys steal sunflower seeds from Mr. Sir but Stanley takes all the blame. In the heat of the moment, Zero hits Mr. Sir in the face with a shovel and runs away.

Stanley goes after Zero
Stanley goes after Zero
Stanley steals the truck and goes after Zero. He ends up crashing the truck in a hole and runs by foot.


May 2 1990
The end of Camp Green Lake
The end of Camp Green Lake
In the middle of the night, the boys dig and find a suitcase. However, the Warden catches them in the act. However, the boys are covered in deadly yellow spotted lizards. The Warden doesn't go near them and lucky for the boys, Stanley's new attorney shows up that morning.

The End
Holes the bookStanley and Zero are freed to go. Camp Green Lake's staff and management are turned over. The curse on Stanley's family is lifted and sneaker odor is abolished.

Stanley and Zero take refuge in God's thumb
Stanley and Zero eat onions to stay alive. They also manage to find water and plan how they will get back to civilization. The boys plan on stopping at the camp to get food and dig one last hole to try and find the treasure.
