Federal privacy laws
This law is made to prevent privacy issues such as tracking people and gathering information about people without their permission.

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) – Prohibits unfair or practices in connection with the collection, use, or disclosure of personal information from and about children that uses the internet.

Federal privacy bills that have been introduced in 2015 include:
S. 1158 (Consumer Privacy Protection Act) – This is to ensure the privacy and security of sensitive personal information, to prevent identity theft, to provide notice of security breaches involving sensitive personal information.

H.R. 2092 (Student Digital Privacy and Parental Rights Act) - This would limit operators of websites, applications and other online services from selling students personal information to third parties. This bill would also give the student’s parents access information held about their children and allow them to correct it.

S. 668 (Data Broker Accountability and Transparency Act) – prohibits data brokers from obtaining personal information or another information relating to any person by making a false documents.

What is a Data Broker? – They collect, assembles, or maintains personal information concerning a individual who is not a customer or an employee of that entity in order to sell or provide third party access to the information.
