Abraham, who plays an important role as an example of faith in Christianity and Judaism, is also known as Prophet Ibrahim in the Quran. He is recognized as a prophet and messenger in Islam. In the bible and Quran, he is also known to nearly sacrifice his son, Ismaeel or Ishmael. Abraham and his wife Sarah were longing for a child for years. They were lonely all day. Then finally his wife-Sarah or Hajar-gave birth to a son called Ismail. After many years, Abraham had a dream where God commanded him to sacrifice his own son. He had found the dream troubling but he had the same dream again and again. He then decided to tell his son about the dream ,"God has asked me to sacrifice you." He replied saying: you should do das Allah says, I will be patient. Prophet Ibrahim prepared to sacrifice his son. On the way, the devil came to him and tried to convince him to disobey God. But he kept on going and turned his back towards the devil. He didn't give in. Then just as he got his knife ready and then he had heard a voice saying STOP. I don't want you to kill the boy. Abraham immediately stopped and placed his knife down. God sent down a sheep to sacrifice instead. The day that this event took place, Muslims get an animal to sacrifice remembering this day.
