Tipe mantra ini adalah Counter Spell. Hand movementnya adalah mengarahkan wand pada Animagus yang ingin dimantrai. Hand movement tersebut berhubungan dengan fungsi mantra ini, yaitu men-nontransfigurasikan seorang Animagus, mengembalikannya pada bentuk manusianya. Contohnya seperti yang dilakukan Sirius Black dan Remus Lupin pada Peter Pettigrew. Warna yang dihasilkan oleh mantra ini adalah warna biru.
Mantra ini akan bekerja apabila ada lebih dari satu orang yang melakukannya, dan yang dimantrai harus hewan animagus. Jika bukan hewan animagus, mantra ini tidak akan berefek dan tidak akan menyakiti hewan yang dimantrai.
Ada satu mantra yang fungsinya mirip dengan mantra ini, yaitu Homorphus Charm. Fungsinya mengubah werewolf ke bentuk manusianya. Namun, sifatnya sementara karna kodrat werewolf adalah sebagai setengah manusia serigala.
Meskipun Animagus Reversal Spell dideskripsikan sebagai Charm, namun efeknya lebih dominan ke Transfigurasi, karna mantra ini bersifat mengubah wujud sesuatu atau Animate to Animate.
