Sony's WH-1000XM5 headphones are the latest iteration of an already-popular model. They are comfortable, have excellent ANC and fold into a compact carry case.
1. Sony WH-1000XM3
The WH-1000XM3 is one of the top wireless noise cancelling headphones on the market. Its incredibly comfortable, lightweight design provides excellent noise cancellation, a serious audio quality and long battery life which makes it ideal for use in flight or other travel situations. Its elegant design and touch-sensitive controls make it a perfect choice for music fans who are looking for a stylish and affluent headphone that they can use with any device.
The right ear cup is equipped with touch controls that allow you to play or play music, move forwards and backwards, change the volume, and use Siri or Google Assistant. It also features ambient sound and noise detection, atmospheric pressure optimizer for air travel and a companion app that lets you adjust the settings of your headphones.
In comparison to the TOZO T6 Truly Wireless, the Sony WH-1000XM3s look more sturdy and durable, they have a more balanced default sound profile, longer battery life, and superior noise cancelling. They also feature a brand new DSEE Extreme processor that improves the dynamic range, making them better for audiophiles who listen to music at higher volumes. Additionally, the Sony's additional feature -- the ability to muffle your music and allow ambient sounds to be heard by placing your hand on the right ear cup to allow for an uni-directional call or conversation -- is a major selling point.
2. Bose QuietComfort 35
Bose was among the first companies to offer active noise cancellation. They continue to have a stronghold on this market. The company's QuietComfort 35 headphones are a great choice, with excellent ANC and a lightweight design that won't strain your ears or head.
They may not have the same quality of sound as modern headphones, however they do a great amount to block out ambient sounds such as air conditioning, wind and cars passing by. The QC35s feature the best noise cancellation among wireless headphones that cost less than $350.
The earcups and the headband share the same design signature as their predecessors. They are comfortable to wear for long listening sessions due to a comfortable fit and cushioned feel. A hinge on each earcup allows the headphones to fold flat making them easy to fit into your bag or carry-on bag.
The QC35s are Bose's first Bose headphones to come with Google Assistant, which lets you play music, alter the volume and make calls with hands-free. It will also read your calendar and chime for notifications. This feature can be turned on through the app or using your voice. The headphones are compatible with iPhones and Android phones in wireless or wired modes.
3. Sennheiser IE800
The IE 800 S in-ear headphones are designed for audiophiles. They don't have any bells and whistles for multimedia like hands-free microphones or media controls, instead they are pure sound converters that have an impedance of around 17 ohms. This makes them simple to drive by the amplifier circuits that are found in most modern smartphones. They also avoid the numerous drivers and armatures found in other headphones that are high-end. Instead, they utilize only a single driver of 7mm inside each earpiece.
The result is an in-ear headphone set that is surprisingly powerful and simple to use. They have an enthralling bass and has a clarity and cleanness that exceeds many rivals while the treble is characterized by a sense of effortless extension and definition that will please audiophiles.
They provide exceptional isolation with minimal noise interfering with your listening experience. A shallow fit means that the sound leakage is low. They are also incredibly comfortable and can be placed comfortably in your ear without putting too much pressure on them. Sennheiser has taken steps to refine the tuning of this model as compared to its predecessor. This includes improvements like the dual-chamber absorption system to reduce masking effects and the use of 7mm wide band drivers to ensure a superior level of clarity.
4. Sony XM5
Sony's flagship ANC headsets continue to be the top choice in our testing. The XM5s are a fantastic option for travel or work with a long battery life and a sound quality that easily competes with the other top headphones in this class, such as the Bose QC 45s or Bowers & Wilkins PX7s. They also have exceptional noise cancelling that automatically ramps up in the event of an emergency to deal with the noise of airplanes and commuters.
They are excellent in reducing low-frequency sounds like bus rumbles, and mid- and treble-range sounds such as passenger chatter and ambient chatter from a busy office. While they're not as good in cancelling out high frequencies, they are better than the lower bass of Foo Fighters or the treble of Miles Davis recordings. Their performance is still far superior to most other premium headphones.
The XM5s is the most recent version of Sony's WH1000X series It comes with modern design and brand new features. They are connected via Bluetooth 5.2 which allows dual-device pairing and seamless switching between mobile devices. The Sony Headphones App allows you to adjust your settings, including DSEE Extreme Upscaling which improves audio quality while not increasing the volume.
5. Sony WH-1000XM2
The Sony WH1000XM2 is a successor that has a few improvements over its predecessor, and retains its crown as one of the best headphones for noise cancellation available. They're still gorgeous, offer impressive active noise cancellation, and have a broad range of audio-customization options in the app.
The WH-1000XM2s feature a bass that is quite robust and resonant. The mids are clear and precise while the highs are bright and crisp. They're also very flexible, able to adapt to different genres of music due to the flat EQ.
However, they're not perfect. The touch panel in the right ear cup is slow to react to commands, which can be frustrating. They also only work when connected to an accessory device, and do not function when listening to an auxiliary cable.

They also provide high-resolution streaming audio using LDAC technology, which can deliver up to 990kb/s.

The Sony WH-1000XM3s are a better option for travelers than the Bowers & Wilkins PX because they have a more portable design with a built-in microphone and Bluetooth multipoint connectivity. The XM3s are also more comfortable than the PX with a smaller headband and soft ear cups that don't press your ears so tightly.
7. Sony WH-1000XM2
Sony's WH1000XM2 headphones are a stylish, well-appointed pair of noise-cancelling headphones wireless. These are the second-generation flagship headphones from Sony, which Trusted Reviews named as Best Headphones of 2016. The headphones are excellent however they must compete with Bose's QuietComfort 35 II models and B&W PX models.
The 1000XM2 is packed with features. One of them is an intelligent auto-setting feature that adapts the quality of audio and ambient sound to your environment.
