Amon Amarth are Swedish melodic death metal masters, and are often called Viking metal because of their lyrics that explores the mythology and history of the Viking world. Their music is characterized by epic tales of battles that span the Viking Age and pre-Christian times.


Amon Amarth, founded in 1992 in Tumba in Sweden, has become one of the most well-known and popular groups within European metal. They are also well-known for their energetic live performances and have captured the hearts of metal lovers everywhere with their unique brand of heavy rock.


Their first demo, Thor Arise, was released in 1993. Since then, they've recorded ten albums that offer the heft and power for which Amon Amarth is known.


The Great Heathen Army, their twelfth full-length release, is a more balanced and diverse album than their previous releases. The album still has a heavy and powerful sound with their signature rock riffs, however it's also a more polished record. The flawless production, made possible by of Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Accept, Megadeth), assists in bringing out the strength and weight without making the songs seem less important.

The Great Heathen Army opens with the uptempo, soaring "Get In The Ring". It is a pounding bass line as well as a beautiful guitar solo from Olavi Mikkonen, who has continued to show off his amazing capabilities with each new album.


"Pursuit of Vikings" is a different standout, a thunderous number that has the perfect moshpit-like chorus break as well as an epic finale.
