This homemade fish costume will give your child the feeling of being a fish for Halloween. This DIY project is easy to do and does not require much sewing experience.
Choose a marine creature to be the inspiration for your costume, or go with what you feel and create something random. There are plenty of ideas for fish costumes to suit your style. Many of them can be made quickly and easily.
How to make a fish head and body
You'll first need felt fabric to make the body and head of your fish. This felt is available at most craft stores and is very inexpensive. Use any type of paint to create the base coat. Then, you can add details like scales, tail-fin marks, or other fishy details. After the base coat has dried, add the eyes and the nose.
The next thing you will need is a few pieces batting. One piece will be for the head, and you'll also need a few more pieces to cover the tail and the back of the head. These can be cut out with your fish pattern.
You'll now need black and white felt. Use a marker or a pencil to draw the nose and eyes. After you have done this, you can then glue the eyes and nose to the fish's head.
Sewing your fish together is easy once you have the pieces. Sew the head and body together. You can't sew on the batting until the entire head is finished.
Make a hole in the batting for the tail before you stitch it on. Attach the tail to the front and the back of the fish. You'll then need to sew the edge of the fish tail and fold it up to create a loop.

You can create a ruffle to cover the head of a clownfish costume, by making it a bit rounder. The same material can be used for the rest, but more batting may be needed to cover the whole body.
