The Computer Ethics Institute developed the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics in 1992 as a collection of guidelines to help individuals and businesses in responsible technology activity. These commandments remain applicable today as technology evolves and plays an increasingly important part in our everyday lives. In this article, we will explore the significance of adopting computer ethics standards, examine a couple of the commandments and why they stand out, and recommend other ethical issues that should be added.
The first and most essential reason to examine computer ethical guidelines is that technology has grown so prevalent in our lives. Computers and the internet are used for a variety of purposes, ranging from communication and entertainment to education and commerce. As a result, it is critical that we utilize technology responsibly and ethically. people and organizations may engage in unethical actions that hurt people, communities, and society if there are no norms for conduct.
One commandment that strikes out to me is, "Thou shalt not use a computer to cause harm to other people." This commandment is important to me because technology has the potential to bring great damage to people, communities, and society. When used maliciously, technology may inflict enormous harm, whether via cyberbullying, distributing false news, or launching cyber-attacks. I agree with the claim of this commandment and feel that people and organizations should be held responsible when they utilize technology to hurt others.
Another commandment that strikes out to me is, "Thou shalt not use a computer to steal." This commandment is crucial in my opinion since technology has made it easier to steal information and intellectual property. Technology has allowed people to take information and ideas without punishment, whether via hacking or plagiarism. I agree with the claim of this commandment and feel that people and organizations should be held responsible when they utilize technology to steal from others.

There are several occasions when these commandments should have been followed. The Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which the business gathered data from millions of Facebook users without their authorization and exploited it to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election, is one example. This incident emphasizes the significance of the rule not to use technology to hurt others. Another example is the Equifax data breach, in which hackers stole millions of people's personal and financial information. This violation emphasizes the significance of the commandment not to steal using technology.

Other ethical issues relating computer and technology use should be added in addition to the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics. One factor to examine is the influence of technology on privacy. Personal data collection and analysis have gotten simpler as technology has advanced, prompting worries about privacy issues. The use of face recognition technology by law enforcement organizations, for example, has prompted worries about the possibility of misuse and prejudice. Another factor to consider is the influence of technology on the environment. As technology advances, it uses more resources and generates more waste, resulting in environmental damage. Electronic gadget manufacturing and disposal, for example, contribute to environmental contamination.
Finally, the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics provide useful direction for people and organizations seeking to utilize technology responsibly and ethically. It is critical to address computer ethical norms in order to avoid technological abuse and safeguard persons and society. The commandments to not injure others and not steal are crucial, and there are innumerable instances when they should have been followed. To address the influence of technology on society, ethical factors such as privacy and the environment should be incorporated. As technology advances, it is critical to examine ethical concepts and rules to guarantee that it is utilized responsibly and ethically.
