How Railroad Workers Has Become The Top Trend On Social Media
Union Pacific Houston Cancer - Is Creosote Still Affecting Houstonians?

For decades, residents of Houston's Fifth Ward have argued the company hasn't done enough to clean up the creosote sludge that is buried at its rail yard that is contaminated. The latest tests have demonstrated that contamination could still be an issue for residents living nearby.

Researchers believe it is due to the high rate of cancers in the area. Two years after launching an all-state health investigation Researchers found that there were higher than expected rates of lymphoblastic childhood and adult kidney and pelvis cancers in the region around the Union Pacific site.

Creosote

Creosote, a common chemical, is used to treat wood. It can cause cancer in people exposed to it.

It is a heavy oily substance which is black or amber-colored and has a smoky odor and a burnt flavor. It is a distillation of coal product that has been in use for more than 150 years as an ingredient in wood preservative.

In the United States, it is used to treat railroad ties and other types of wood including fence posts, utility poles and marine pilings. It is also used to protect log homes and other structures from rot and insect infestation.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that creosote can be a hazardous chemical. In short-term exposure, it can cause irritation to the skin and eyes chemical burns, stomach discomfort and burning in the mouth or throat, and kidney or liver problems.

Long-term exposure to the sun can cause skin and scrotum cancer. Workers who come into direct contact with it during wood treatment or other manufacturing processes are susceptible to cancer.

It is regarded as a possible human carcinogen, as per the EPA. It has been linked with various cancers that include esophageal aswell as lung cancer.

Houston's Fifth Ward residents have been exposed for a long time to creosote due to a former railroad yard that was close to their homes. The chemical is said to have affected their homes and soil and continues to spread throughout the underground.

The cities of Houston and Harris County have joined the initiative to sue Union Pacific in federal court. They are demanding that the company test for contamination on a regular basis and take preventative measures to stop the spread.

A group of Fifth Ward neighbors filed an action against Union Pacific in October of 2017. They claim that creosote has contaminated their soil, causing significant health issues as a result of the former rail yard.

They are seeking compensation for their diseases and suffering and also damages from railroads for the cost of cleanup and other related costs. They also claim that they are victimized by environmental racism and discrimination, as well as other kinds of pollution that have affected them and their families.

Dioxin

Dioxins are substances that don't break down quickly in the environment, and they can be found in the air, water, soil or sediment for a long duration. They can be found in a variety of places that include natural disasters, industrial accidents, cigarette smoke and incineration as well as hazardous waste.

The health effects of dioxin are not known at low levels, however there is evidence to suggest that they can cause cancer and other serious illnesses. Dioxin levels that are higher have been linked to increased risk for heart disease, organ cancers as well as immune-related issues and endocrine issues like hormonal imbalances. They can also lead to reproductive problems, a weakened immune system, menstrual issues and diabetes as well as hair loss, weight loss and facial cysts called chloracne.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the most common way people are exposed to dioxin is through drinking or eating. They aren't volatile or water-soluble, so they are more likely to be absorbed into the body through the consumption of meat, dairy products or fish and other seafood.

However, it is crucial to remember that the level of exposure that will have detrimental effects on your health is dependent on various factors, including the amount of food you consume or drink, the frequency you eat or drink and how much you breathe. It is also important to take into consideration your gender, age as well as your diet, nutritional status and family traits, as well as other health factors that may affect whether you are affected by dioxins or not.

The type of contaminant is crucial. The EPA states that certain toxic substances are more likely to have a damaging impact on health than others. Polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs are more likely than creosote to negatively impact your health.

PCBs can cause damage to eyes as well as the liver, kidneys and kidneys. They can also affect a person's immune system and hinder the growth of healthy bones and teeth.

Houston's Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden neighbors have complained for a long time about cluster of cancer deaths that are linked to the Union Pacific rail yard. Railroad Cancer Lawyer is next to their homes. The announcement on Friday by the city's health department said that it discovered cancer-causing chemicals in surface samples near the rail yard. The announcement said that the results were not a good sign. Mayor Sylvester Turner told FOX 26 that he plans to take legal action against Union Pacific over the matter, and said a plan that he submitted to Texas environmental regulators will not be adequate in light of the findings.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are harmful chemicals that have been used in industrial and consumer products for more than 60 years. After being shown to cause cancer and weaken the immune system PCBs were banned in 1979.

After being released into the atmosphere, PCBs contaminate air, soil, and water in many areas of the world. They are strong binders of organic matter, and are easily transported and accumulated into the environment.

PCBs are a significant concern for protecting the environment as well as public health. The EPA is adamant that they are a human carcinogen and has proved that they can cause cancer in laboratory animals.

Some studies also show a link between PCBs to birth defects in children. This is especially the case for children exposed PCBs in the womb.

The main route of exposure to PCBs is through food. Fish is the primary source of exposure since they are the source of the most PCBs. But, PCBs can also be present in beef and dairy and other agricultural products.

Another way to be exposed to PCBs is by drinking or showering with water that has been affected by PCBs. This can happen from leaks or spills which could be caused by electrical or other equipment.

People can also be exposed to PCBs by breathing in the air or through skin contact. Railroad Cancer can cause an illness known as Chloracne. This is a mild pale, yellow-colored lesions that last for weeks to years.

The effects of PCBs upon human health are still not completely recognized. Some researchers have suggested they could cause liver or biliary tract cancers in humans, but more studies are needed to determine how this impacts us.

Railroad Cancer Lawsuit is also examining whether these chemicals may cause birth defects in newborns. Low birth weight has been linked to Type II diabetes, insulin resistance as well as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease later in life. In two studies, children born with higher levels of PCBs in their cord blood had lower body weight at birth and/or later in childhood.

Lead

Lead is a poisonous metal and is found in a wide range of products, including pipes, paints and food cans. The body can absorb it through two main routes: oral and respiratory.

It is an extremely chemical that can oxidize and react with other substances in your environment. This can lead to it accumulating within the body. This can lead to serious health problems like cancer, among other diseases.

In Houston, people who live near a creosote legacy treatment plant owned by Union Pacific Railroad have a high incidence of cancer. The city has asked for the federal government's help in cleaning up the railroad's contaminated site.

Union Pacific Railroad has a history of having been a source of contamination for its Fifth Ward rail yard and Kashmere Garden neighborhood with chemicals that can cause cancer. The railroad has been trying to remove the mess, but a plan submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is not sufficient residents claim.

Groundwater plume below the homes in the affected area is one of the most serious effects of the contamination. A recent study by the health department has revealed that the concentration of creosote found in soil samples around the rail yard is higher than the recommended level for drinking water.

Railroad Cancer Lawsuit is the gradual release of creosote from the atmosphere. As it escapes, it causes residents to breathe dangerous levels of vapors which are harmful to children as well as adults.

It is possible that the vapors could cause cancer for those who breathe them. To learn more about the effects of the vapors on the lives of residents an in-depth survey of the residents is being conducted in the neighborhood.

This is a major problem for the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden communities. It's a pity and should be resolved immediately.

A Department of State Health Services study found that leukemia rates were five times higher among children who lived in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens neighborhoods than what was expected. The study also found that adult cancers were more prevalent in these areas than elsewhere in Texas.
