Turkey: Ministry to investigate Minecraft violence News from Elsewhere... ... media reports from all over the world discovered by BBC Monitoring

According to reports, Turkey's government is looking into allegations that Minecraft is too violent.
The game is suitable for children aged between 7 and 10 years old in the majority of Europe and the United States. However, Turkey's family and social policies minister, Aysenur Islam, has ordered an investigation over suggestions that it encourages violence according to the Haberturk website reports. The website says that if the government finds it too violent, they could request an all-out ban. A journalist informed Mrs Islam that players earn points for killing other characters, which includes women. 30tt She asked her ministry what they would do regarding it. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
A journalist from a Turkish gaming magazine says that the ministry's concerns are unfounded. Kaan Gezer is an Leadergamer journalist, claimed that she's never seen children take a sword and assault people because Minecraft. "Stories like this can cause the video game industry in Turkey to stall or even worsen." Minecraft is extremely popular among gamers of all age groups. In February 2014, it reached its 100 millionth user. Teachers at some schools in the UK have also used it.
